Traffic nightmare continues in Gurgaon, city police asks people coming from Delhi to stay away.

  1. Gurgaon police asks people from Delhi to stay away to avoid jams
  2. Delhi-Gurgaon highway, other nearby roads blocked due to water-logging
  3. Schools in city have been advised to close down

As heavy rain left corporate hub Gurgaon struggling with monster jams for 12 hours, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari ordered the national highways chief to send a team of officials to clear traffic and report to him.

A commuter told NDTV that he had reached home today, 12 hours after he left work last night, as flooded roads stopped traffic.

Many were forced to abandon their cars when they ran out of fuel, and walk three or four km to home or the nearest commute.

The abandoned cars on the roadside worsened the situation in some areas, said police officers.

This morning, the Gurgaon police advised people from Delhi, who travel to the city each day for their offices, to stay away.

Schools in Gurgaon have been asked to shut down for two days and people have been advised to avoid the roads.

More rain this morning meant that those on the roads may not get much reprieve for a few more hours.

The Gurgaon police tweeted that flooding at a major crossing had blocked the national highway.

Many were stuck on the road till after midnight on Thursday because of the jams on the highway between Delhi and Gurgaon and other roads nearby.

Water is being pumped out of badly flooded roads. Haryana's top bureaucrat has called an emergency meeting to tackle the crisis.

On Twitter, comments derided the millennium city as "Guru-jam" and "the world's biggest parking lot".

Images on social media showed long snaking jams and people sitting on the roads, outside their cars. Buses, cars and other vehicles were seen submerged in water.

Road traffic from Delhi to Rajasthan and Maharashtra has been severely hit.

For the first time such a huge jam is being faced by this area. People around there say many were trapped for more than 12 hours!

hi

traffic jam in india is a day to day tamashaaaa.....no one cares...sab kuch chalta hai attitude....some times mother

nature makes horrible too..

Bangalore was no different yesterday.

Belandur lake overflowing,White cloudy toxic wastes floating on roads, Some engaging in fishing in flooded areas, live snakes in rain water collected,

More than usual traffic jams on main arteries commuters reaching home after 4 or 5 hours.

In gurugaon, many girls stayed over night in their offices, some could not collect their children from creches where they had been left on way to work.

In delhi, the effects of gurugaon got felt with traffic gridlocks.

Of course our parliament worked with both houses functioning with some disruptions , not due to rain but slogan shouting opposition entering the well of the house.

Late thursday evening around 8pm in rajyasabha there was a nostalgic speech by venkiah naidu on situation prevailing in hyderabad just before bifurcation of state.

Never before I have seen MPs

bonding and discussing the past and expressing remorse over their actions and responses to division of a state after years of the event.

Debate was concerning special financial package for AP.

Mostly telugu speaking MPs were present at the late hour to participate

In the name of modernization, we have done away with our lakes, ponds and wells. That's the main reason for the water logging. What we have done is simply destroyed the collection points for the rain water. With concreting the surface of earth we have also blocked the chance of water getting drained in to the ground and thus recharging the ground water table. Water harvesting is the only solution, wake up India!!

Gurugram has beconme gurujam with poor planning for solving the traffic woes, lack of policing during the crisis hours! Also if you wanted to know how much was the rain the instrument for measuring the downpour was malfunctioning! This in a BPO city!!

The present condition of Bangalore is no better than any other City in India. Without proper planning and high corruption the City has expanded all directions. The real estate business is the most thriving money spinner after IT indusatry in Bangalore. The highly paid IT industry employees are lured to invest in the flats and vehicles by the Banks giving attractive options. High rise buildings are comingup on all sides of the city, gobling up the lakes and open spaces.

I give below an honest assesment of the situation from "the Bengaluru City Traffic Police" website:

"Bengaluru today is obviously one of the most sought after cities in the country what with the rapid growth in the IT industry and the rise in the number of job opportunities in the city. With the rising population in the city there is also a corresponding increase in the number of vehicles in the city and a huge increase in the demand on land.

What adds to the traffic pressure in Bengaluru in particular is that there is very little scope for expansion of roads and the need to use existing roads for smooth movement of vehicles is even more pronounced. It thus becomes mandatory for the administration to ensure better parking facilities. So far, the government and the BBMP have not taken this issue seriously and now the situation is such that it needs to be addressed seriously and effectively."

Vehicle Population in Bengaluru City (up to 31-03-2016)

Two Wheelers L.M.V A/R H.T.V H.G.V Others Total
4219709 1299143 205284 121677 98127 164996 6108936
Travel speed has dropped to 15 kmph during the peak hours.

As of now there is no viable solution for the woes of this City seen !

Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.
