This year, Independence Day celebrations will not be the same. In addition to the flag hoisting from the Red Fort, the government has decided to hold mega events at Rajpath.

It will be celebrated with the same fervor and objective."ajor celebrations are likely to take place between Mansingh Road and Janpath. Cultural events will commence from 5 pm onwards on August 12 and this will continue till August 18. Street singers and dancers from various states will be performing. The cultural event will go on till 9 pm.
Various cuisines from different states will also be available for the people. Musical bands of the air force, navy and army are also likely to take part in the celebrations. Handicrafts and handlooms will also be showcased.
Various sangathans and cultural associations from various states have also been invited. The day will be celebrated as a national festival, capturing the festivity and patriotic mood.
During the week-long celebrations, states will be given an opportunity to put up pavilions to highlight their contribution in the history of Independence, cleanliness and their participation in developmental activities.
India Gate and 15 other government buildings will also be illuminated on the occasion.

SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS

The entire stretch of Rajpath will be blocked to avoid any untoward incident. Security will be beefed up as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the event.
Unlike previous years, this time multiple ministries will also be roped in, in addition to the defence ministry, to overlook arrangements.
Fifteen states have already come forward to participate in the mega event.
