SHANI JAYANTHI TODAY ::--
***********************************
//// SHRI HARI SARVOTHAMA -- VAYU JEEVOTHAMA ////

Shani Jayanti is marked as birth anniversary of Lord Shani. Shani Jayanti is also known as Shani Amavasya. Lord Shani is son of Lord Suryadev and rules planet Saturn and weekday Saturday.

Shani Jayanti is observed on Amavasya Tithi during Jyeshtha month according to North Indian Purnimant calendar. According to South Indian Amavasyant calendar Shani Jayanti falls on Amavasya Tithi during Vaishakha month. It is name of Lunar month which differs and in both type of calendars Shani Jayanti falls on the same day.

Shani Jayanti coincides with Vat Savitri Vrat which is observed during Jyeshtha Amavasya in most North Indian states. On Shani Jayanti devotees keep fast orUpvaas to propitiate Lord Shani and visit Shani temples to seek blessing of Lord Shani. It is believed that Lord Shani believes in fair justice and if appeased blesses His devotee with good luck and fortune. People, who don’t have blessing of Lord Shani, toil for years without getting any reward for their hard work in life.

Shani Jayanti is very appropriate day to perform Hawan, Homam and Yagya to appease Lord Shani. Shani Tailabhishekam and Shani Shanti Puja are the most important ceremonies performed during Shani Jayanti. Above ceremonies are performed to lessen the effect of Shani Dosha, which is popularly known asSade Sati, in the Horoscope.

Shani Jayanti is also known as Shanishchara Jayanti and Sani Jayanthi.

Shani Jayanti, or Sani Jayanthi, is believed to be the day when Lord Shani, one of the Navagrahas made its appearance on Earth. In 2016, the date of Shani Jayanti is June 5, Sunday. In Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, it is marked on June 4, 2016. Shani is feared by those people who believe and follow astrology, as Shanaishchara has the capacity to create malefic influence on the horoscope and thus in their life.

On Shani Jayanti day, people perform special pujas at Navagraha Temples or in Shani Temples. Those Hindus having Saturn cycle or Shani cycle or Sade Sathi in their horoscope perform special pujas like Shani Yagya or Homa. Some devotees observe a fast (fasting or upvaas) on the day and the rules observed are similar to Shanivar Vrat or Saturday Fasting.

You can find more details about Shanaishchara Jayanthi in this article.

To overcome the fear of Shan all you need to do is offer prayers to Hanumanji.

Offerings to be made in Shani Temple - Black cloth, black til (sesame), and til oil.

It must be noted that there are numerous crooks in the guise of astrologers, pandits and pujaris who take undue advantage of innocent people on such occasions. They put the blame for all misfortune on Shani and try to conduct expensive pujas etc. Beware of such crooks.
