    Karuveppilai

    1 Not allowed!
    Dear all,

    Just heard this info recently from my family member who in turn heard it from an acupuncture therapist (AT). According to the AT, if one were to take the raw green leaves of karuveppilai early in the morning on an empty stomach (after brushing the teeth) it could cure a myriad of diseases, including diabetes (though which type I am not sure), BP and cholesterol, besides others.

    I have not tested it yet, but just wanted to share the information. Anybody interested may try it after thoroughly washing the leaves.

    The AT said that the quantity should be about two "arks" which would mean about 20 leaves or so.

    Best,

    It should be true (even though I have not yet tried). In my uncle's house, the tree of கறிவேப்பிலை had a special aroma with the leaves having a special shine. My aunt told that instead of watering the tree, they used to deposit புளித்த மோர், கழுநீர் etc. near the trunk! All their family members (most of them over 60 years of age) do not have vision problem (no spectacles) and only two of them are diabetic! The special aroma of that tree leaves is still green in my memory.

    Thank you for the post. It will certainly help everyone.

    karuveppilai is supposed to contain a lot of trace minerals which the body needs.

    in our home, i make a jug of sambaaram, ie watery buttermilk, spiced with asafoetida, salt, ground green chili/karuveppilai (in a mixie). this delicous drink goes well with breakfast, as a thirst quencher anytime and on social occassions. . always handy and quick to serve.

    I would like to share the following article recd thro mail sometime back about கறிவேப்பிலை.

    Best,
    Good info but those with normal blood pressure should be a bit careful while taking stuff that lower pressure.

    Out here we have a herb called Pegaga which is of the Gingko leave family.It does have mild Blood Pressure lowering effect.

    I took just a bit of leaves a few days cos its supposed to be good for all sorts of headaches...since I have cluster headache.

    I didnt expect it to lower my blood pressure to a low of 90/50mmHg. I was almost about to faint.

    So just a word of precaution to those with normal pressure and thin body...go slow on any herb that lowers BP...it could lower just too much.
