Mediating on the issue of gender bias at Maharashtra's Shani Shingnapur temple, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Sunday claimed to have arrived at a solution that allows both men and women to have darshan of the deity some distance away from the sacred 'chabutara' (platform).

Citing two models of facilitating darshan, practised at Kashi Vishwanath and Tirupati Balaji temples, Ravi Shankar said, "It is agreed that no one -- man or woman -- will step on the sacred chabutara at the Shani temple where oil is constantly poured as it can result in possible skidding."

"This contentious issue has been settled. There will not be any discrimination based on gender and all will have equal right of worship," he told a press conference at Balewadi near Pune.

While the temple trustees present at the meeting agreed with Ravi Shankar's formula based on the Tirupati Balaji darshan model, Trupti Desai, who led the recent agitation of the Bhoomata Brigade seeking women's entry into the temple's inner sanctum, said, "If nobody is to be allowed on the chabutara, the priests who perform pooja of the deity at the sacred platform should include women."

Desai said if both men and women are going to be banned from stepping on the chabutara, activists of Bhoomata Brigade should be given an opportunity to perform the 'last pooja' on the sacred platform in the temple in Ahmednagar district, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

She also said that it was wrong to disallow men to perpetuate ban on women. Ravi Shankar said, "It is not that you do not get blessings of god if you have a darshan from some distance."

According to the spiritual guru, all men and women could have darshan of the Shani deity from a distance of three feet without any gender discrimination.

There can be no compromise on gender inequality.

These swamis should lay off offering solutions which perpetuate inequality in worship.

Guardians of temples can be sensitised to the rules of indian constitution.

Those who do not conform need to be prosecuted

Krishji,

Why are you agitated when Sri Sri's solution engenders gender equality!

Instead of supporting women to enter chabutra , giving explanation that they might skid is revolting. Men have been doing it for long.Well are men skid free? or male

priests whom he thinks should be allowed skid proof. All this is prescription of male hypocrisy-different laws for men and women.

It is as bad as Rajiv gandhi stand on Shahbanu case. or similar laws/rules against womens interests.

Sri sri ravishankar moves to every trouble spot to exhibit his wisdom and sell his sudershan kriya prescriptions.

He is a commercial swami like our yoga guru with patanjali products

Any how the problem is got over!
Not by giving enhanced distance in entry to women; but by curtailing the level of entry to men!!
It is like communism in temples.
We could not improve the poor to become rich; but rich could be made poor taking away their property by the State!!
All like telling ……………………a child a story / childish story!!
Again to comprehend …………it appears all the problems are got over! Everybody is happy with equal rights!!!
Same formula can be tried at Sabarimala also.

Not in Sabarmala...As Kerala women are not asking this!!..It is some obscure group sitting in Delhi...There is no agitation similar to Shani temple movement!!

Left alone, local people will live peacefully!!
Problems come only from far off places that too from unconnected peoples.
