Post-Pathankot, Shoes, Belts, Jackets Of Flyers Under Scanner Air travellers will now have to undergo another round of frisking and baggage check before boarding their flights.The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has asked airlines to do “Secondary Ladder Point Security“ (SLPC) at all airports in wake of the security scare following the Pathankot attack and hijack alerts sounded by intelligence agencies. SLPC means that airline staff have to now frisk passengers and check their cabin bags just before the aerobridge or step-ladder leading to the aircraft. This additional check will be on top of reinforced security checks being carried out by the CISF where passengers are being increas ingly asked to remove their shoes and put them through the baggage X-ray scanners. “All passengers are being asked to take off their shoes, belts and jackets and put them Chaos over frisking, P 7 on the X-ray scanner belt. We are doing random checks on almost 30% to 40% of passen gers even before they approach the security check area. These flyers are frisked and their baggage checked.Then they proceed for security checks where they are again subjected to checks like all other passengers,“ said a senior CISF officer. “There was recently an alert that a hijack attempt could be made on a flight out of Chennai. That alert was for a particular flight on a particular day. While that alert is over, we can't let our guard down,“ said an airline official. These enhanced security measures have led to passengers taking much longer to board aircraft thereby causing delays. Airlines are asking passengers to report to airports in advance so that flights can leave on time. Air India, for instance, `advised' all passengers to reach airports three hours before their flight departure time. “SLPC is a very time-consuming process where passengers have to be frisked again and their cabin bags opened just before boarding point.The maximum delays are being caused at this point,“ said an airline official. |
