All the numbers supplied are ODD.
The sum of three odd numbers will surely be odd -
whether or not they are repeated!
So what is the solution anyway???
It is assumed that ZERO can't used
nor any negative integer! Right???

I also concur with your reply. How then Mr gaurav agarwal could solve. Let Mr.Viswanathan come out with the answer.

There is no restriction provided on the use of mathematical symbols and their functions. So a probable answer could be:

[13-1] + [13-1] + [13-7] = 30

Also I cant understand why should WE be glad that only Gaurav Agarwal, the IAS topper could solve it..?

Oh boy! I bet I am very glad that our dear Mr. Zee has solved it ! :clap2:
The use of (-) opens up many possibilities I am sure.
Let me work out and give the other solutions if they do exist! :)

This new thread shows that dear members have missed this thread Can you ? dated 1-10-15
and these two posts!! :ranger:

Entering forum after a break!

There is no way to have ONLY three numbers because all the numbers are odd

and three of them will NEVER give 30 as total! :nono:

I thought of 15 + 13 + (11 - 9) and many other combinations with one minus symbol. ;)

Eg:
15 + 11 + (9 - 5)
15 + 9 + (7 - 1)
15 + 7 + (13 - 5)
15 + 5 + (11 - 1)

and so on...................

But............. Google search gave the BEST answer using all the numbers!

15 + 13 + (11-9)/(7-5)*(3-1) = 30

WOW! Brilliant !! :clap2:

See how many answers are possible with those numbers!

But, the cutest I like is this one:

(15 - 5) + (13 - 3) + (11 - 1)

Nobody is answering my main question, which is :

Why should WE (tambrahms) be glad that only Gaurav Agarwal (IAS topper) only could solve it..?
They are broad minded, what else! :thumb:

''ondrE kulam; oruvanE dEvan''.

''yAdhum oorE; yAvarum kElir''! :grouphug:

15 + 15 + (1-1) = 30

15 + 15 + (3-3) = 30

15 + 15 + (5-5) = 30

15 + 15 + (7-7) = 30

15 + 15 + (9-9) = 30

15 + 15 + (11-11) = 30

15 + 15 + ( 13 - 13) = 30

15 + 15 + ( 15 - 15) = 30

The last solution uses just one number "15" !
