Hi I am SRKPRIV...

Hi I am SRKPRIV... and I am a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin... I am very concerned about status of brahmins in tamil-nadu and India in current and in future. I would like to unite brahmins or see brahmins united under one umbrella to chanllenge their issues and I would also like to see brahmins come out of their shell and adapt to the changing circumstances before we are forced to do so. I see brahmins behave differently when they are in foreign countries, that is they adapt to the changed circumstances, but I dont see that as the case in India. If they can do so outside, they should be able to adapt inside as well. I would also like to see brahmins help each other and lift each other from their miseries, for our combined future survivability and being successful. I heard somewhere that brahmins form a healthy 7% of the TN population and I would like to see the entire 7% (and other OCs together) galvanized together under one umbrella for our own survival in the long run!. Most of the brahmin votes are distributed among AIADMK, Congress and to a limited extent DMK. Traditionally Congress used to get the maximum votes, with AIADMK origin, many brahmins moved to it due to their moderate stand and also traditionally AIADMK and congress allied with each other. But, with the current context in mind all brahmin votes should be cast regardless of party and in the lines of who can give us something in return for our votes. 7% is a good number it may not be the best, but it is certainly a good figure. If you include other communities which have to compete in the OC sphere, it can surely be raised to 10% or more. Brahmins should galvanize their support in such a way and COMMUNICATE accordingly to achieve this!.

One more thing! I dont feel proud or otherwise to be a brahmin. I am just neutral!. Though I would like to be proud later (in future) due to their good actions in the future.

Please read my posts as well I already made!

This is about me and what I want to achieve.!

Thanks for listening!.

7% is an exaggerated figure. Brahmins constitute only about 3% of TN's population & many of them have gone out of TN. Had they been 7%, even the DMK would have made overtures to them. As for forward non-Brahmins , many of them produce bogus caste certificates claiming to belong to backward communities & reap the benefits of reservation illegally. For example the Vellala Mudaliars of northern TN are a forward community, but two other castes bearing the same caste surname Mudaliar (namely Agamudaya Mudaliars & Sengundha Mudaliars) are classified as backward. Most Vellala Mudaliars produce bogus caste certificates claiming to belong to either Agamudaya Mudaliar or Senguntha Mudaliar community and get into medical & other professional colleges & jobs.Similarly Nattukottai Chettiars of southern TN produce bogus certificates claiming to belong to some backward Chettiar community like Kaasukkara Chettiar, Vennaikkara Chettiar, etc.Even some Saiva Vellala Pillaimar of Tirunelveli (who were socially as dominant as the Brahmins in the past) manage to produce bogus caste certificates and reap the benefits of reservation unlawfully. But so far no government (whether Congress, DMK or AIADMK) has prosecuted or taken any other action against any erring forward caste non-Brahmin for producing bogus caste certificate for obvious reasons !!! So, forward caste non-Brahmins are not very enthusiastic about joining hands with the Brahmins for fighting for their rights because they (forward non-Bs) are already enjoying the benefits of reservation although illegally. If a Brahmin produces a bogus caste certificate, he will surely be behind bars! Such is the social (in)justice of TN ! Of course in 1980 one Tirunelveli Saiva Pillai by name Marthandam Pillai floated a party by name "MURPADUTHAPPATTOR KAZHAGAM" which had as its objective "unifying all the forward castes & fighting for their rights jointly" but this Kazhagam died a quick death. So the Brahmins have to fight alone. The best thing for them is to get out of this nasty state(TN).

hello srkpriv nice to know you would be providing inputs into this forum.
As you suggested we need to support each other.
I am a neutral person too so lets touch base in the forum.

thanks cheenus, I look forward to;

kaundinya I think brahmins number only 3% too, but someone mentioned in the forum they are like 7%, if 7% were true, we can surely influence the poll decisions and political decisions as well. but then, I guess as you say, may be 3% only. It is such a situation that asks us to work with others, for one to create ourselves among others who are not brahmins, but have similar predicaments (like saiva vellalars, etc...), I know a friend of mine, who is a saiva pillai, who is in the forward (so-called) community, to create a synergy, that way we can address the issue of our diminished numbers. getting BC certificate and all okay for temporary reasons but on a larger level it is important to let other communities learn that reservation alone is not a solution. To squarely blame brahmins or our society for someone being poor is totally illogical. Not that brahmins (and other castes) are a cause of it, but how much percentage is more important. If you look at Scheduled Tribes, they are indegenous people, are not sent to the fringes of the society by brahmins (or other upper castes) for that matter, but rather their own making. They shun outward influence. The tribals are available everywhere, if you see brazil, indonesia (or native indians in eh case of US), they are all tribals, their practices are generally not mainstream one and tend to stay outside!. Similarly, it lacks objective to say, that all the people are poor due to caste issues, as though we have ha d a great economy all along. Meaning, there is no objective study or anything to find out (as far as I know) how much was our job potential (like 50 years ago for eg.,), how much was our economic potential, where the upper castes to have supposedly taken a greater pie and within that, how many of the so-called lower castes applied, or what was the type of job that, they were supposedly driven out etc., were never done. The entire india was itself a economic diaster or in shambles or probably mediocre and the only educated community at that time was brahmins and some upper castes, and brahmins were not the necessarily richest to have dominated the entire spectrum, but middle class, who educated themselves, and whatever government jobs and other jobs were available at that time, they applied for it!. So I think it is unfair to blame brahmins to squarely for all the problems, but then, for politicians it is a easy demagogery!.

By Rama, a final yr iit student who's organizing the protest....

I spoke to some people from other colleges... and as of now.. we
thought we would kick start our protests on 20th.

The plan is to sit at Anna Square near the Marina, and silently hold
posters and placards... which will show our commitment to the
upliftment of the downtrodden... but equally make it visible that we
do not see reservations as the means for the same.

Our message will essentially have the following main points:

1. We are against reservations.
2. We are for equality of all.
3. We are for upliftment of the deprived
4. We are for a caste free India

Some features of this will be ...

1. We all wear only white clothing. This will symbolise peace.
2. We have posters/placards in Tamil and English.

We would like to have a decent number of people participating in the
same. It will be for just an hour or two. Hence, I request anyone
who can make that much time to come over and join.

Lets get going.

the protest is on saturday in the evening at 5..those willing to
join..pls join the chennai against reservation forum on orkut...

get as many ppl as u can into the protest
