Being a tamil teacher having to undertake to lecture on silappadikaram to modern boys and girls could be a demanding exercise.

Having known of EEPA and his ways[he was a tamil teacher in my tamil school in delhi], it should not have been a pleasant task for him

Most of his novels have been controversial for one reason or the other.

He was awarded Padmashri for his works in tamil some years back.

Indira Parthasarathy is a gifted writer. His writings are refreshingly modern and bold. Some would call this controversial. I have read his novels. He was a leftist intellectual like my another favourite writer Jayakanthan. I like Parthasarathy's works. When he wrote about the Kilvenmony massacre in one of his novels, it made several people sit up and take note. Because people who knew the caste conflicts in TN only in the binary logic of brahmins and non brahmins were made to take note of the more dangerous and more vicious dalit agri labour versus the village land owner middle castes conflicts.

The OP is interesting to read. It gives a different interpretation of the contents of Silappathikaram. I enjoyed reading it. There is substance in this new interpretation of Silappathikaram.

By the way EEPA is a tamil vaishnavite brahmin. He has spent years away from tamilnadu in delhi and abroad

His writings are typical of brahmin writers of fiftees and early sixties untainted by dravidian thought.

His language is also brahminical reflecting the thinking and way of life of brahmin families exposed to modern living of those days.

Many brahmins seeing the hypocrisy of their own caste in religeous/caste matters became wedded to leftist ideology. His staying in socialist leaning atmosphere of

delhi with Nehru promoting it vigorously drew many youngsters like him to it.

I had the privilege of listening to his stories besides even watching school plays he had put up as tamil teacher with students as cast depicting his view of kannagi and

silappadikaram. Very interesting human being.

And many brahmins who continued to grow with their thought processes, came out of the leftist ideology at some point of time after understanding the superior wisdom in their religion. Those who were stuck with the leftist ideology died as leftist intellectuals. Like Nehru. LOL.

The lesson which stares at the common man without any "leanings" is that both the leftist leaner and the superior wisdom religionist die and vanish without any trace!

In the final reckoning life is a zero!!

Did you see his play Aurangazeb - How Aurangazeb character projected - Today Aurangazeb road becomes APJ Abdul Kalam Road - You think he would approve such acts? I think his Ramanujar is done with conviction rather than for conveniance like the one that is on TV now with election in Mind.

Mr. Parthasarathy told The Hindu that his play was a psychological study of Aurangzeb and not a political analysis of his reign. “The play explores why Aurangzeb turned against his father. He was fond of music and Sufism as a child. The play depicts incidents that led to his alienation from his father and Dara… The play shows how he used emotional and religious slogans like a politician, even though he gave endowments to temples.”

This comment seems to be rubbish, though the author is an excellent writer!

It is said that girl children should not be touched by any male, including her father, when she reaches the age of 5.

And, usually girl children are always accompanied by one of her parents to provide safety to her.

When a video comes in FB about teaching 'Good and bad touches to children', it will be appreciated!

But, when kaRpu neRi is given credit by Tamil authors, people are ready to make fun of them! So sad!! :tsk:

RRji,

I think you have misinterpreted by pulling out just two lines away from the context.

The context is this:

My answers in blue, Vaagmi Sir!

that’s one set of stories. And then there is the woman who was sitting next to me on the train recently. The papers were full of the Indrani Mukerjea case, and the woman sniffed and said disapprovingly, “God knows how many more husbands she has.” My co-passenger would have had a lot to talk about with Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary, who said in Rajya Sabha in the context of marital rape that “the mindset of society [in India] is to treat marriage as a sacrament”.

கற்பு seems out dated . But we spend time finding whose
கற்பு is supreme Kannagi's or Madhavis's?!

There is a wonderful article in the hindu sunday magazine today by Radhika santhanam on ' Marriage, morality and more'

One small excerpt from it

Ashley Madison website leaks reveal that from New delhi, mumbai, chennai, kolkatta [with 38652,33036,16384 and 11807 registered users respectively] married people [regd.members of this site]

are looking for extra marital relationships -private and discreet.

So far swept under the carpet , in fact thousands of married people are looking for sexual relationships outside marriage. without qualms or guilt.

Technology[internet, mob] and push for gender equality are impacting marriages.

Very nice and revealing article . worth reading

For many people kaRpu is a body related matter. Only for a very few, it is embedded in thought that it is related to mind also.
