Can anyone describe or point to any website or any form of documentation that describes the physical, meta-physical characteristics of the Division of Dweepam, Kandam, Varsham in Hindu Cosmology of our Globe?

I m really interested in understanding why North America is called Krouncha Dweepam , Inthra Kandam and Ramanaka Varsham.
