When will debasing and commercialisation of carnatic music stop?

Lot in the west and US might be interested in carnatic music.

That does not mean a few should jump and try to make fast buck organising something appealing to their lifestyle like cruise to sell carnatic music to them

Response from a muscian of 7 decades standing TVG

Older musicians like PadmaBhushan T.V. Gopalakrishnan - vocalist of seven decades believes " playing in cruise is not something to be proud of" for an artiste " It reduces classical musician to the status of mere entertainer! That is why number of them who perform on ships keep their appearance secret" says Gopalalkrishnan . "Classical artiste ought to stick to more formal venues" he says (TOI Aug 5, Raga rides new wave as carnatic goes cruising)

It should be interesting to see the response of TM Krishna on this when and if comes!

I can imagine how it will be and enjoying it without sharing!

Carnatic Music (CM) has all along been Brahmin music, although one may be able to list out the names of a few non-brahmin Nadaswara/Clarionet Vidwans and musicians too. But the point I want to make is that the NB castes, and more particularly, the majority OBCs, etc., had no "lEn-dEn" with Carnatic music. Today, these last mentioned group are on the ascendency and they perceive Carnatic Music as "pAppAn's" pATTu. Naturally, the market for CM is approaching its nadir. All these gimmicks may keep CM on the ventilator for some more time but, ultimately, its non-brahminic form will take shape and will become popular.

Ragapriya Madurai was originally started with a small group of music lovers in the humble household of the then famous Cardiologist Dr. V. Srinivasan in 1969,

“It was initially started to promote mike-free concerts. That time there were few people and the artistes would sing in the living rooms of our members,”

Later It was moved to Pandiyan Hotel Mini conferance hall to accomadate about 30 people No Mike No chir for audiance except for the old!i I remember One I attended log ago A concert by Young Vijay Siva Particularly this song of Dikshidhar in Poorvikalyani Meenakshi Memudham with full bhava and feeling! specially When he sang the line Meenalochani Pasamochani .

Later I gathered this information

On Deepavali day, in 1835, Dikshithar performed puja as usual and asked his students to sing the song "Meenakshi Me Mudam" in the raga purvikalyani raga.
As his students sang the lines "Meena lochani pasa mochani" he raised his hands and saying "Sive Pahi" and left his mortal coil.
His Samadhi is at Ettayapuram ( Mahakavi Bharathi's Birth Place), between Koilpatti (14 km) and Tuticorin.

Times have changed and now they are no more 'Chamber Music' like then - it is all glittering regular Katcheris with MIke etc Now the "Season" is on
