Why divide women according to their marital status? It is Pathaam pasili mentallity Women are to be adressed as Ms and men as Mr. Women married not married widowed or Divorced should be only Ms.

Why this addiction to sterile west. We have hundreds of honorifics to choose. If one wants to be ambiguous or neutral, one can do that.

In this melee the insult thrown on men - irresponsible loiter - is forgotten.

If 'Thiru' means 'Lakshmi', why do men have the prefix 'Thiru' in front of their names while mentioning in Tamil, like 'Mr' in English and 'Shri' in Sanskrit.

    Does 'Thiru' really mean 'Lakshmi'?

Tiru means Lakshmi Mathi means Arivu Hence this honorific Thirumathi for married women !! How will you address a women with these qualities without marriage? Are they accquired or transmitted only by the Mangalasutra or Thaali? Questions Not from sterile west - Very much from fertile east More horrorific than honorific!

You are free to call a married woman or any woman by any prefix you like, free world and liberals rule! As long as the lady does not mind or object. Why everyone is to be addressed as mr or ms?

A woman with thali but no tiru or mathi still thirumathi? Adressing as Ms will not lead to thiese funnly situation as reasoned out in the OP why married women are called Tirumathi!
