Gangeshwar Temple

Gangeshwar Temple is a hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in at Fudam village, Diu, India. It is a very ancient temple .The temple enshrines five Shiva Lingas of different sizes amidst rocks on the seashore. The Shivlings are washed by the tidal waves of the sea. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as GangeshwarMahadev.

The Gangeshwar Temple is located at the shore of Jallandhar beach. One has to walk down sloppy steps to reach the main shrine. The most significant feature of the Gangeshwar Temple is five shivlingas that lies amidst the rocks and are lulled by the crystal clear tidal waves of the sea during high tides.

The 5 Shiv Lingas are installed by the Pandavas (5 Pandava brothers of the great epic Mahabharata) during their anonymous stay in the jungle when they were banished for 12 years from their kingdom Hasthinapur. It is believed that there was earlier a Cave Temple built at the bottom of the cliff and entrance being sea facing. Over the centuries, the cliff has deteriorated and currently only the Shivlingas are left.

The gentle sea waves offering their obeisance to the "Shiva Lingas" in stone have a mystic aura around them in the cave temple of Gangeshwar where the Lord makes his presence felt.

There is also lord Vinyakar statue carved on the steps leading to Lingam. A huge five hooded serpent (naganath) is carved just above the lingams on the rock. One can offer coconuts and garlands to the lingam and the devotees are allowed to pay closer view of lingam.
