Pandavas other wives

The brothers agreed that Draupadi would stay with one brother for a year before moving to the next one, a shrewd move to prevent jealousy and to identity paternity of Draupadi’s children. In the four years between, each brother spent time with another wife.

When Draupadi agreed to be the common wife, her condition was that she would share her household with no other woman. In other words, disregarding popular practice of the times, the Pandavas could not bring their other wives to Indra-prastha. Arjuna, however, succeeded in bringing one wife in. She was Krishna’s sister, Subhadra. And with a little advise from Krishna, she was able to trick her way into the household.

The First one to marry among Pandavas was Bheema.
He married Hidumba’s sister, and had son called Ghatotkacha.

Bheema married yet another woman named Valandhara, the daughter of the king of Kashi, and begat upon her a son named Sarvaga.

Yudhishtira married Devika, the daughter of Govasana of the Saivya tribe, and begat upon her a son called Yaudheya.

Arjuna - A nagkanya called Uloopi, their son was called Irawan; Arjuna fell in love with Chitrangada, the princess of Manipur, and they had a son called Babruvahana; Arjuna's last biwi was none other than Krishna's own priya behen Subhadra, who became mother to the heroic Abhimanyu.

Nakula married Karenumati, the princess of Chedi, and begat upon her a son named Niramitra.

Sahadeva obtained Vijaya, the daughter of Dyutimat, the king of Madra, and begat upon her a son named Suhotra.

All the other wives of Pandavas except Draupadi lived with their sons in the house of their fathers.

Somehow this arrangement is fine cos they got to be polygamous and polyandrous even though the risk of a sexually transmitted disease was high.

But lesser mortals like the rest of us have to be Eka Patni and Eka Pati...how sad!LOL

Sri Rama Lived in Treta Yuga, Lived with Eka Patni

Pandavas lived in Dwapar Yuga !!

Probably in those days frequent wars resulted in fewer men and hence Polygamy was essential because it provided a safety net for the extra number of women.

The Hindu Marriage Act, established in 1955, expressively prohibits polygamy by stipulating that a
Hindu marriage can be solemnized between two Hindus if neither party has a living spouse at the time of marriage.

Nowadays, there is no chance of marrying more than one as Men find it hard to get even a single girl to marry, !!!

Dasharatha too lived in Treta Yuga..and some versions of Ramayana state including his main 3 queens he had some 364 wives!LOL

I think Lord Rama never got to see much of his father who was busy the whole year round with 364 wives to attend to..and only have one day a year to be free..so Lord Rama must have decided to only have 1 wife!.

But even then finally Lord Rama missed out being a father figure for his sons.

Yes PJ sir..you are right..men find it hard to get even single girl to marry but females have no problems..guys never stop chasing us!LOL

Even though Sri Rama followed Eka Patni rule, Polygamy seems to have been the rule of ancient India

King Dasaratha had at least Three Hundred and fifty wives besides Kausalya, Kaikeyii, and Sumitra.

Valmiki Ramayana, Ayodhya Kanda, Chapter 34, Verse 10

Dasaratha said to Sumantra,

"Oh, Sumantra! being all my wives, who are here. Surrounded by all of them, I want to see the virtuous Rama."

('who are here' means available at the capital city then)

Valmiki Ramayana, Ayodhya Kanda, Chapter 34, Verse 13:

अर्ध सप्त शताः ताः तु प्रमदाः ताम्र लोचनाः |
कौसल्याम् परिवार्य अथ शनैः जग्मुर् धृत व्रताः || २-३४-१३

“ardha sapta shataah taah tu pramadaah taamra locanaah |
kausalyaam parivaarya atha shanaih jagmur dhrita vrataah ||” 2-34-13

atha= thereafter; taah= those; ardha sapta shataah= THREE
HUNDRED AND FIFTY pramadaah= women; dhritavrataah= steadfast in their vow (of devotion to their husband); taamra lochanaah= having red eyes; parivaarya= encircling; kausalyaam= Kausaly; jagmuh= went; shanaih= slowly.
