We have come a long way since the days of `gurukulam' age where a student stays in the home of a teacher and learns at the pleasure and leisure of his/her master. This is Internet Age, and where time and distance make no sense. The connect between the teacher and the student happens instantly over the Net. And, everybody is willing to embrace the Net willingly.
The latest to take the Net route to teach is this leading lady of Carnatic music. Senior vocalist Bombay Jayashri has decided to log on to the Net to teach the art of talam in music. Time sense is so critical in every walks of our life, and more so in the field of music. Time without count, music teachers underscore the need for maintaining `kalapramanam’. Adhering strictly to the time and following `talam’ to a tee are sine qua non for quality music. Bombay Jayashri has decided to use the Internet medium to inculcate in aspiring artistes this crucial element in music.
She is now set on helping aspiring musicians to explore the beautiful world of Carnatic music, adorned with rhythms and patterns, through an innovative digital and social learning forum: Classle. The course is titled "Rhythms and Patterns with Notes in Carnatic Music".
