Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar at the 102nd Indian Science Congress in Mumbai on Sunday
[h=2]Paper on ancient Indian aviation technology claimed sages and scientists had written about aircraft-making as early as 7000 B.C[/h]Union Minister of State Prakash Javadekar said at the 102nd Indian Science Congress on Sunday that it was high time India used its ancient knowledge and wisdom.

"Germany has showed tremendous rational, informed and pragmatic interest in India for its knowledge of Sanskrit. Ancient Indian science was based on experience, logic, observation. That wisdom has to be used. If Germans can use our relevant information for development, why can't we?" he asked at the inauguration of the symposium.

Uma Vaidya, chairperson of the session and Vice Chancellor of Kavikulaguru Kalidasa Sanskrit University decried the negative publicity to the topic, and appealed everyone to read original Sanskrit texts without any bias.

"The session is not for unwarranted boasting or pride over outdated theories, but to show that however small the then developments appear, they are the foundation of new theories," she said.

The session had been controversial especially for a paper on ancient Indian aviation technology. It has claimed that Indian sages and scientists had written about aircraft-making and allied things way back, between 6 to 7000 B.C.

'Indian flew first modern aircraft'

The paper presented by Captain Anand Bodas and Ameya Jadhav claimed that Shivkar Bapuji Talpade was the first man to build and fly an aircraft in modern era. "He said he decoded the Vedic sutras to build the aircraft in 1895," Captain Bodas said.

Indian gave Pythagoras theorem

In the session, scholars claimed that Indian sages were the first to write about pi, give Pythagoras theorem, make elaborate plant classifications, create a well-developed branch of veterinary science, carry out surgeries, attain immense progress in metallurgy.
