There is no mention of this in any of the old books on Astrology. It is a common belief. Aanmulam arasalum, penmulam Nirmulam. This is against the basic tenets of astrology where a particular event is predicted taking into so many factors. like conjunctions, combinations, relative strength of the houses, bhavas, their ralationship etc.

Having said that, it is better to look for a boy with no father, because we do not want our daughter to be blamed in case something happens to the father in law.

dosham

does that mean, the boy's father will not DIE at all?People should be made knowledgeable.Rgardless of Moola Natchatram, one day or the other the people die.Even if the girl is from Anusham Natchatram, isn't it!

suresh.

Shri Nacchi seems to be right.... it seems to be a belief rather than any astrological principle... I am not an astrologer, but have grazed the basics of astrology and palmistry.

These beliefs might have crept in, maybe observing a trend... so, it may not mean that the FIL would immediately die! There are several aspects which come into play...

There are so many complicated readings from a single horoscope that it is quite difficult to judge the exact outcome... my take is that it could be a guide to the individual's general behavioural/life pattern (or something along those lines).

But there are astrologers who "divine" predictions which are accurate! My periappa is a well-known astrologer/Shakti-upasakar and he has his own unique way of analyzing the jatakam.

Seshadri

The dosham is ascribed only for certain padams and that too for boys. Also there are also remedies.Astrology is an ocean. While astrology is a science and deemed divine,it also depends on Valsiddhi of astrologer who is supposed to be of cleasn habits and basically an Upasaka.Thats why he is called a Daivagna thro whom the divine revelation of his Upasana murthi is given as prediction.

Suvarchas,i think its aprimarily a girls dosham.Penn Moolam Nirmoolam...as the saying goes...

The saying has no basis as that seems to have been coined in a rhyming way. Also the text and opinions of sages vary as we find between Jataka parijatham and Parasara smirithi and Jambunatham

Thats good news,if its primarily for the boys.Hope now at least the girls are let of the hook.Even for giving birth to females, the girls were blamed untill science conclusively proved, determination of the sex,is determined by Y chromosome.

Le me also now make it clear to hon'ble members that as per Shastras horoscope matching has never been prescribed by Shastras. It was used only primarily for Yagna vedhi and other royal matters. We only have invented another use in recent times for astrology in marriage matching.Earlier it was decided based on family background or decided by preceptors or guru or in the divine presence and another way is Garba sankalpam even before the child is born

Shri Suvarchas

It would be highly ignorant mode to think celestial objects are not being used by humans world over. Our weekdays itself is determined by celestial objects,by seven of them viz Sun,Moon,Mars,Mercury,Jupiter,Venus,Saturn.Hindus added the North & South intersection of Moons orbit as well as Rahu & Ketu.Hour is dereived from Hora. The least time per our scriptures is Parama-anu or the primordial atom ie 2/151875 second.

Our marriage horoscopy is absolutely scientific. Its an art of astronomy.Vedanga-Jyotisham.Knowledge of light.A part of vedas. It evolved as everything in the world evolved.Only little minds, will say,our vedas are India specific, whereas its universal in nature as its from nature we obtained this vedas.

While I commented that astrology was not used in early days for marriage matching,I never questioned the efficacy or the usefulness.Marriages were earlier decided primarily by the vidvat and Kulam as we find in the tamasha in the form of Kasi yatra in Brahmin weddings. The idea is the bride's father finds a good learned Brahmachari who is on a yatra after his his Samaavarthanam which is akin to covocation after completing his adyayanam. The bride's father on seeing him requests him to accept his girl and take the householder's life which evidently proves that marriages were decided based only on other counts

IMHO,The process of marriage,is a method,to organise pro-creation,with a family as foundation,to build civil society.Monogamy was adviced and asked to practice, just to maintain harmony. At a base level, humans are no different from animals.Animals also pro-create,give birth, and wander happily or haplessly as the case maybe, live and die.Its only us humans, have made things up,and claim whatever we want to claim, and sometime make it appear as truth......:)

While it is so,we cannot just simply reduce it to procreation, but to beget a progeny to uphold dharma and carry on the vedic tradition to ensure Loka kshemam by performing the essential rites. This is especially true of brahmins.Monogamy as such was never advised for everybody as in olden days people were advised to marry within their varna and then people from other varnas in case circumstances arise.Anuloma weddings were admitted and not pratiloma meaning that varna of the groom should be considered above that of the girl.A classic case for this in history is that of Vikramdithya,Bhatti,Bharthruhari etc who were of the same father and their mothers were different
