Go to taskmanager and click on performance tab and check whether your disk usage is high like 100% or not
if has high disk usage then DO this
a. Press windows + R key from the keyboard.

b. Select the option Control Panel and All control panel items then System.

c. Click on Advanced system settings.

d. Under performance, click on settings.

e. Go to Advanced tab, Under Virtual memory, click on Change.

f. UN-check "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box.

g. Select your windows drive (where OS is installed).

h. Click on Custom size radio button.

i. Set Initial size equivalent to your RAM size in MB.

j. Set Maximum size to twice of your RAM size in MB.

k. Click on Set.

l. Click on OK thrice.

m. Restart your system.

very slow laptop [Solved] - Laptops - Windows 8

thanks for a systematic approach.

i will try over the weekend, when i have TIME.

my problem is slightly different.

i had windows 8 with 1 GB RAM.
did a service of my laptop.

when i got the laptop back it was windows 7.

i asked why, i would rather u upgrade it to windows 8.1, but u gave me windows 7.

the software specialist says:

for windows 8, 1 gb RAM is not enough.
for 1 GB RAM, windows 7 is the best.

the speed is the same as it was with 8, practically. i am in no mood to argue with him. just thought will understand this RAM a bit more in simple terms with the new OS.

5 Reasons You Should Upgrade to Windows 8 | News & Opinion | PCMag.com
If you don't like change or learning new ways of doing things—even if in the long run they turn out to be more efficient—you should probably stick with what you're using. Also, if your PC's specs are extremely outdated—less than 1GHz processor or less than 1GB RAM in particular—you won't be able to upgrade.
Lot of consultants are experts in window 7 and have not used windows 8 for long time and would like to stay with window 7.

Microsoft's cloud service has become way, way more than just online storage. Sure, it still lets you save and access files to an online space that's accessible from a Web browser or apps that run on not only Windows. It’s worth bearing in mind that official consumer support for Windows 7 – which includes warranty claims and free tech support – will end as soon as January 2015

Thanks, in my case i will put it down to the processor for now and will stick to windows 7.

Related; Microsoft has changed or soon will call skydrive as onedrive; someone has threatened to sue for violations.

hi

generally i feel ...windows XP and windows 7 are more convenient than windows VISTA and windows 8.....how abt ur opinion?

Rule #1: Never upgrade to new software on old hardware. Specially Msft's software. It always runs slower, requires more memory etc.

True. And this rule applies to all applications like CAD, photoshop etc; minimum hardware specified will be highly inadequate and it is better to multiply by two (speed, memory etc.) for satisfactory performance. When the application is upgraded old hardware is of little use. Preferable to upgrade both hardware and software at the same time.

My experience; Text editing was faster in a data general minicomputer with 16K memory than in today's i3 pc with msword. Of course, more features are available now. Parkinson's law - more resources if available are used to do the same work.
