Cinnamon and honey

I recently came across this "mix" which is supposed to be a remedy for many ailments, and among others, claims to - lower cholesterol, aid in weight loss, eliminate heart attacks, relief from arthritis etc. In short, one step short of immortalilty :)

One has just to google "cinnamon and honey" and a deluge of information pours in. Sample is here : Cinnamon and honey's healing properties

Some proclaim this as a very ancient medicine, to have originated from Ayurveda, but the Ayurvedic doctors do not seem to prescribe it ! Also only "Ceylon" cinnamon (cc) is supposed to be used (any other type of cinnamon is supposedly harmful), and this, flares up my suspicion! Perhaps a innovative marketing technique for cc?

But I have had some close family members take this for weight loss and they have given a positive feedback. So, just thought of placing this info here and perhaps, if members are not too busy with other "hot" threads, it would be interesting to have their opinion on this.

Regards,

Cinnamon is indeed touted as a wonder food, just like garlic. I'm not sure whether it really does help in all the things it's supposed to,but it has a wonderful taste. I use powdered cinnamon with my morning oats (not the store-bought powder, but fresh cinnamon sticks which I dry and grind to a fine powder) and not only does it taste great, but it looks good too!
I don't know about Ceylon cinnamon, but the one from Yemen has a gorgeous fragrance.
Perhaps someone who is a specialist in Ayurveda or Nature Cure can throw more light on this wonderful spice.

I have no idea how honey aids weight loss when 100gram of Honey contains 82Grams Total Carbhohydrate.

It is surely going to spike Insulin in the body.

Cinnamon on the other hand is supposed to be regulate post meal Insulin spike and Honey does the direct opposite..so when both actions are opposing..I wonder how on earth will it help to help for anything.

The only way is to try it on ourselves..but who wants to take honey daily..honey is not 100% Ahimsa in the way it is produced commercially cos the larvae of bees do die when they honey comb is milked for its honey.

Thank you for your feedback, but apparently the combination of cinnamon and honey helps, it seems.

I could not find any authentic source on the net, but perhaps will ask someone when I vist India.

But some types of Cinnamon has Coumarin which can be harmful if ingested excessively.. and those who are on Warfarin(anti clotting agent) should beware of the risk of prolonged bleeding cos Coumarin in the Cinnamon will increase the risk of bleeding.

So I feel it is always better to play safe and not over do anything.
