Is the notion of one world something new

Our ancient Indian philosophers have been preaching this ages back

Is this feasible...Can all the countries come under one umbrella

Who will then lead it...From population perspective it can be by a Chinese or Indian

If resources are distributed equally among all then there there will no poverty...No one dying of mal nutrition

There will no war & trillions will be saved...

We will have 100% literacy

Is this a dream worth pursuing?

Garry Davis has done this...Read on

Man of no nation who saw one world dies at 91
Margalit Fox, NYT News Service | Jul 30, 2013, 06.18 AM IST

NEW YORK: On May 25, 1948, a former United States Army flier entered the American Embassy in Paris, renounced his American citizenship and, as astonished officials looked on, declared himself a citizen of the world.

In the decades that followed, until the end of his long life last week, he remained by choice a stateless man - entering, leaving, being regularly expelled from and frequently arrested in a spate of countries, carrying a passport of his own devising, as the international news media chronicled his every move.

His rationale was simple, his aim immense: if there were no nation-states, he believed, there would be no wars.

Garry Davis, a longtime peace advocate, former Broadway song-and-dance man and self-declared World Citizen No. 1, who is widely regarded as the dean of the One World movement, a quest to erase national boundaries that today has nearly a million adherents worldwide, died in Williston, Vermont.

"I am not a man without a country," Davis told Newsweek in 1978, "merely a man without nationality."

Davis was not the first person to declare himself a world citizen, but he was inarguably the most visible, most vocal and most indefatigable.

The One World model has had its share of prominent adherents, among them
Albert Schweitzer, Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Einstein and E B White.

Davis was no armchair theorist: 60 years ago, he established the World Government of World Citizens, a self-proclaimed international governmental body that has issued documents - passports, identity cards, birth and marriage certificates - and occasional postage stamps and currency.

He periodically ran for president of the world, always unopposed.

To date, more than 2.5 million World Government documents have been issued, according to the World Service Authority, the group's administrative arm.

Whether Davis was a visionary utopian or a quixotic naif was long debated by press and public. His supporters argued that the documents he issued had genuine value for refugees and other stateless people.

Just weeks before he died, Davis had a world passport sent, via Russian authorities, to Edward Snowden, the fugitive former NSA contractor accused of violating espionage laws, whose US passport was revoked.
Snowden could not be reached for comment.

Shri vgane,

In my opinion, this would be totally impossible.

Even within the local leadership of a country, ruled by the country men, there exists state/district wise discrimination and people got to challenge the ruling body, fight for justice/equality etc and achieve the desired outcome with hardship.

In such a case, how can we expect a smooth and impartial single governance of all the countries of this world, when the governance would be only by Humans?

Dirty politics can not be ruled out in such world wide single governance as well, as a matter of fact, as much as the prevailing political scenario of a country's National level local governance.

As long as Humans gonna be the rulers, I don't think any good can happen for humans dwelling in different regions; without any discrimination, biased priorities, mischievous strategies/agenda etc..etc for the personal benefit of the panel of rulers ; belonging to multiple - religion, ethnicity, culture, languages etc.etc.., with governance under one umbrella.

This is worse than the idea of UN.
Totally impractical, pipe dream.

May look impractical or a pipe dream...But under what conditions will the world populace come together?

1. Threat to the world from out space from say a meteor or large asteroid or a space debris that will hit earth

2. Threat from extra terrestrial life /aliens

3. When earth becomes uninhabitable due to various natural causes (say Tsunami/Earth quake/nuclear disaster)

May be these look improbable...But moment we think that in near future such a calamity can happen , I think the world will get together & come out of their ego and work collaboratively to save man kind

I have not lost hope...Our Indian sages and philosophers always wanted to work together with the rest of the world

Did you just see World War Z?

Dear Sir,

My answers in blue.

Will never happen! Some Deva will come and save us and hit the asteroid away!

2. Threat from extra terrestrial life /aliens.

No..extra terrestrials might be scared to come to earth cos their Varna might be asked!LOL

3. When earth becomes uninhabitable due to various natural causes (say Tsunami/Earth quake/nuclear disaster)

No problem..Bhu Loka isn't the only Loka around...remember Gayatri Mantra??

Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah..so don't give up hope..there is still Bhuvah and Svah Loka to inhabit and pollute..BTW we keep reciting Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu so as a gratitude the other Lokas might just accept us.

May be these look improbable...But moment we think that in near future such a calamity can happen , I think the world will get together & come out of their ego and work collaboratively to save man kind

True...then we can all sing Micheal Jackson's "We are the World..We are the Children"

I have not lost hope...Our Indian sages and philosophers always wanted to work together with the rest of the world

Our Indian Sages must have taken birth outside of India by now..cos they learnt by trial and error that Indians(NRI and Foreign Citizens PIO included) are resistant to change and are fatalistic in thoughts.

But the ancient sages still had hope for a change in their thoughts, words and deeds.

May be Obama could be one of the ancient sages born in the USA>

Posts #4 & 6:

Dont worry, I am here, with support from this forum, we will invite the aliens for a debate and beat them at it.

Rajini or SRK would take care of asteroid or any cosmic debris. If they find it difficult, some telugu actors can give support. Worst case scenario Bruce willis will join, taking time off from the shooting of the latest version of die hard, making it an invincible force.

For all natural disasters, we have our very own dasavatharam in tamilnadu who can take care of it.

Any other residual matter, VB and her fans would take care of it...

:)

Did you really mean it?
If so sorry for the direction this thread has taken.

Did the Mugal Invade Indian subcontinent? Did the British colonize most of what is India? Did Hitler start a war in europe? Did USA invade Iraq? These are Historical facts. Why do you ignore facts, and believe in some philosopher's dream?
Human beings, and their groups always dream of concurring, subjugating, or dominating other human beings. This is the fact, only the weak thinks of unity as he can not achieve something by himself.

No doubt, we live in a man eat man world (figuratively)...We need to raise above the mundane to discuss this ...This concept is not new...I have put this under philosophy section essentially on this count...Can we discuss the ways and means of uniting the world in thought, action and deed

Telengana has nothing to do with this...We have even have 21 more states in India equalling United States & yet India will be united to face any type of external aggression or internal strife

The question is under what circumstances can we unite the world?
