After reading an article on "Living Happily After Retirement" by Sri P. P. Ramachandran (posted here http://www.tamilbrahmins.com/chit-c...-retirement-speech-retired-executive-rbi.html ) I became curioser and curioser about the author. When I found out that he has recently published a book A Bunch of Fragrant Roses, in 2012 (Rs. 595), I immediately requested for an Interlibrary Loan for this book (Sitting half way across the world (from India) and with a mindset to reduce my earthly possessions, I felt justified in making this request.).

This book has five sections - People,Book Reviews, Travels, Essays and Correspondences. Each of these sections has around 15 to 20 articles (each of the articles is two to three pages long). So the whole book could easily be read in installments. Each of these articles is peppered with literary references - have a lot of references to Eastern and Western Literature.

My favorite sections are travels, book reviews and people. I learned about so many new people who have achieved a great deal. Here is where I learned about Smt. Durga Bhagwat. She has written a fascinating book in The Riddle in Indian Life Lore and Literature. Sri. Ramachandran's writing about her is so persuasive, I have got Durga Bhagwat's book on Inter Library Loan (and reading it now). Ramachandran's knowledge of Literature, Music, economics (Banking) come across through much of his writings.

His travel section contains just three essays. Each of his travels make references to Literature (a true delight to read and learn).

(For those who are interested in a visit to New York City, here are some links that may be useful in making literature connection. - I wish I had shared these links with him

By reading his book reviews, one gets a vicarious pleasures of reading the actual books.

Ramachandran shares his correspondences with various people at the end of his book.

All in all a delightful read - essays are bite sized and easy to digest. Recommend this to any one (who has a love for books, music and literature).

To people in this forum, two essays( 28. Am I a Successful Senior Citizen and 30. Religion in Todays World) may be relevant (These topics may already have been beaten to a pulp here :) )
