Hi,
I am willing to know what are positive and negative points that we have in today's world. For e.g I believe the crime(something like murder, rape, looting, robbing etc) rate is less among us. We are more towards education. On negative side, we are not as united as we should have. Physically weak etc.Share your views on our community.

sirs- in a country dominated by 'socialists', 'secularists' and 'rationalists' the biggest & only drawback for bramins is that they have adopted family planning in a big way, thereby reducing their population to a very lower percentage, when compared to other castes.

Positive traits: Honesty, Integrity, Dedication, Commitment, Hard (Mental) Work, Sacrifice, No specific preference for male child, No discrimination against girl child, Fairness, Justice, Piety, Hygiene, Simple living , etc. etc.

Negative traits: Adherence to ritualism, Cerebral (Botanical) Myopia (inability to see beyond a basket of vegetables), Avoidance behaviour towards physical labour, Casteism, Risk avoidance behaviour, inability to mix and mingle with people of varied backgrounds due to strong dietary and religious preferences, etc. etc.

The positive traits outweigh the negative ones so overall, the scale tilts in favour of Tambrams. Generally labelled as "Good Guys".

You are right sizzler! How could we be so blind? You are victorious, and have converted all of us with your SMS pearls of wisdom. Give us more, we jaded decadents are thirsty for your knowledge.

positive traits outweigh the negative?
Are u joking?
We still lack ability to go past the Casteism, treating others as rational animals doesnt make u Good Guy...
We are not better than anyone....
Untouchability was started by us, Widow marriage was not allowed and love marriage between different caste was looked as a crime...
Still r v good guy?

For that matter every communal group in India lacks the ability to go past casteism.

Treating others as "rational" DOES make one a civilized person.

We may or may not be "better" than others but we certainly possess good qualities as a community that we can be proud of - e.g., hardworking, sincere, non-violence.

You have no proof for saying that untouchability "was started by us". Where did you get this information from? What source are you quoting?

The point about widow remarriage and love marriage is applicable to all castes. If other castes can walk about as good people, so can we.

sirs- widow marriage and love marriage are personal choices of individuals. brahminism neither welcomes nor bans these two. when braminism there were no widows at all! so braminism does not say anything about widow & love marriages. whatever is followed in these matters are personal choices of individuals which are continued to be practised as a tradition.
untouchability was started by kshatriyas against bramins during age of parasurama. so much so that, to save bramins, lord vishnu took the avatar of parasurama and came to earth. bramins were not initiators, but victims of untouchability. they only retatiated in reply.
there is no need to go beyond casteism, as it is culture. even if we are not better than others, we are not worse either!!

Sijlar bhaiya, tum kahe hum panditon ko dukh dete ho ?

Tum apna sijlar mein jo paka ke khana hai khao hamari bala se..

"..nahin to nikaal baahar kar diye jaoge aur phir na kehna...

"Bade beabroo hoke nikle tere kuche se hum..."

sirs - casteism is neither banned by constitution nor by law. so there is nothing wrong in following in anything even in public domain , if it is not banned by statute.

sirs- it is constitution of india and indian law which say there is nothing wrong in practising casteism in private or public domanins, subject to normal restrictions. i also subscribe to this viewpoint

hi sizzler, naras

the constitution of India by its provision of different treatment of individual belonging to different castes is an indirect preservator of castes. and here there is no confusion regarding origin of castes. it is by birth.

cheers

My view of pros and cons
Positive points : Adaptability, Non violence, dedication, persistent
Negative points:Inferiority Complex about our caste, Too much of social concern and being humanatarian

Interesting Call

Interesting call Chanakya.

Hope you are saying this about Brahmins in general and not about brahmins who led social engineering or brahmin leadership.

I feel that the average brahmin of today isn't socially conscious. If at all he is socially concerned it manifests thru "Polambals" more than anything else. Lest you think that i am speaking from an ivory tower, hastily let me admit that i am too a "Life time member" of this group. Perhaps aptly we are described as "paarpaan" (transliterally meaning one who just sees !)

More interesting is your choice of listing being "social concerned" as a "weakness". Pray why ?

Being "humanitarian" too is a weakness ! OMG. Why ?

Humanitarianism

Even I have a doubt ..Are we really humanitarian....Wont we avoid risk while helping others.Leave out the donations, contributions etc. Assume there is an accident. Will we be the one saving the victims?? I guess we will be going in our way after saying 'Namekken padu' or 'adap pavame'. Similarly if someone is getting attacked for no reason , will we be the one supporting the victim??

Are we non violent or don't we know violence? If a well abled guy comes and slaps you .....What will be your reaction? I guess most of us will choose the path carefully so that we can avoid him.

Fire:
A very good one. This is the biggest weakness we have .. not getting involved AT ALL. The total number of members were over 1,000; now it has come down to 803; and the active ones are only 144!
Nobody wants to get involved!
