Sruti Kausala Karyakrama: GOOD NEWS:

This is from an article in the magazine "Amman Darisanam" March 2012 issue (Tamil):

Om charitable trust, Chennai (phone 044-22447451, [email protected]) conducted a competition for Veda students in Chennai on 28/29 Jan 2012.

233 selected students from some 30 veda patasalas from several states participated. (Note: each patasala selected its best students and sent them for the competition- so the number of students in these patasalas at entry level is atleast 10 times this number- and there are many more in higher level veda learning, and in various other patasalas who did not participate).

In a first level screening 117 qualified and in finals 46 prizes (including I II and III and also 10 consolation prizes) were awarded for Rig, Yajus and Sama Vedas, various parts. This is only for entry level Veda students. All teachers who came with them were rewarded. All non winners were given Rs.500 just for participating! All were given dhoties, angavastras etc. Food, accommodation and travel and prize expenses for all was born by the trust.

WHAT IT MEANS:
Such events show the slow but steady revival of Vedic studies. Paramacharyal and other great Acharyals of various Maths have worked hard in the last 100 years to make it possible for so many students to learn Vedas, full time! This gives us hope that within the next 10 years, we will have many more young energetic sastrigals among us, who will be properly qualified and who will have knowledge of Sasnscrit also. Further many of these students will become Ganapatikals and will be well learned in many parts of Vedas, Bhasyas, Vedangas and Upanishads.
