Sad state of Brahmanas in Chennai today

From the article, it appears that at least a few appear to be Brahmana patis. I would not be surprised if the sons and daughters of these abandoned mothers have also abandoned their Brahmana identities. Spirituality is everlasting, wealth is transitory. The hymn by Adi Sankara, "Bhaja Govindam", is a concise rendition of the wisdom contained in the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. It contains a reference to this very phenomenon.
