Tiruvanchikklam, or Mahadevar Patnam at a distance of one and a half naligai walk from Kodungallur. This city was ruled by ceraman Peruman , south of the temple is ceraman Kovilagam and fort Cerattiamman was the name of the queen, and vadamala nayar was the minister.. This temple was also known as Mela Chidambaram. This temple had property which earned 16,900 panams per year. The govt paid 148452 and 5/8 Virarayan panam per annual. The image of god was brought by two presit from chidambaram. The images were named as Chandrasekara and Sabhabhathi. In Kollam Year 993, one Pandiya king visited here and offered money for Kumbhabhishegam.

Dear Sri Ramachandran,

The description given by you fits in to the only Tevaram Temple in Kerala the Mahadevar temple at Thiruvanchikulam near Kodungallur. I have read about it in the book "Golden Towers" written by Sri V.T.Induchoodan, published by Cochin Devaswom Board. Saint Sundaramurthy Nayanar has sung on the Lord of this Temple, which is the family Deity of Cochin Rulers. A brief account on this Temple is available in the following web site:

Dear Sri Ramachandran,

This historic Temple is very old. And the main deity is also called "Vanchuleswarathappan" the family deity of Vanchikuala Kings. You are correct, that according to inscriptions in the Temple, the idols have been brought from Chidambaram and installed in 1801,when the Temple was renovated.
Thiruvanchikulam was known as Mahodayapuram acted as Capital of Chera dynasty under Kulasekaras till they were defeated by Raja Raja Chola in 994 CE.
