I believe many of the South Indians don't know about Vasanta Navaratri...It's celebrated only in Northern India.


 
There are actually 6 navarathris for each ridhu. We usually celebrate Sharadha navarathri (Sharath ridhu) and even this vasantha navarathri is also very famous one. Since this falls on hot summer days, it is much celebrated with events asssociated with Thepporsavam, Poornabhishekam, etc.

As Sri Durga dasan says there are six navarathris for six rithus.However Devi upasakas generally observe Vasantha Navarathri,Aashada Navarathri,Sharan Navarathri and Pushya Navarathri.Aashada Navarathri is otherwise called Vaarahi Navarathri and Pushya Navarathri is called Shyamala Navarathri
 
Vaaraahi or aashada navarathiri starts from 12june to 20 th june 2010 this year. Saaradha navarathri from october 8 to 16 oct. 2010. Shyamala navarathiri from feb.3 to feb.12 2011. Vasantha navarathiri from April 4 to April 12 2011. Devi Bhaghavatham 3 volumes ( more than 1000 pages) is available in tamil language in all book stalls. All the members of this forum are requested to buy and read the 3volumes which gives immense knowledge about many questions you are asking in these threads about sandhya vandhanam aachaara murai surya and chandra vamsa kings and maqny informations through stories and you will many answeres to your questions in these forum threads. Simply you can read 100 pages daily from 11th june to 21 st june.
