Dear All,
Eventhough I hv scientific bend of mind, with science backgroud, I would like to learn basics of astrology, and would like to gain expertise in Horoscope matching.. as practically many of our relatives practically running pillar to post when comes to match- making.. could any you suggest good & genuine postal - astrology course.

astrology is study of science which deals with planets and thier reflections when each living being is born. you can study basic books of astrology in english by famous astroligist and scholar. dr, B.V.Raman who is one of the senior member of astrological society of India. check on the web astrological society of india which is in bangalore. there are many tamil, english books.

vedic astrology...even i know basics...i want advanced
study in medical astrology...practical aspects of astrology..

i just want to ask a question.
How dependent is the time of birth in determining a persons horoscope?
Under astrology how is the time of birth determined ?
Is it when the baby emerges out of the mother prior to the cutting the umblical cord or after the umblical cord is cut?
Also human error like an inaccurate watch or "forget" to see the time of birth due to an emergency situation by the attending personel and rough estimate is made instead.
Does 1-2 minutes difference make a significant impact on one's horoscope? or its a particular range of time that determines one horoscope?

I know many people these days who plan the day and time of birth and deliver by ceasarean section for a favourable time of birth/horoscope.( in the process exposing the unborn baby and mother to risk of surgery when surgery is not warrented).

Does this type of "artifically induced" time of birth change ones actual horoscope?

I have another question for you.

nowadays many people check the Nakshatram of birth and base the name for the child on the recomended syllables. they also apply the principles of numerology for the names.
i have seen many different types of spelling of names eg Rattna for ratna, Vishaannu for Vishnu etc.
i have also seen many names which have unfavourable meanings but still kept because of the numerological calculations: eg the name Namitra(means not a friend),and the name Deenan (deena should be followed by either dayalan or bandhu or natha isnt it ?otherwise the meaning would be unfavorable )

Is the meaning of a name more important or the numerology more important?
Sage Patanjali got His name when He fell into the anjali of His mother immediately after birth. Patati(fall) Anjali(the cavity formed when palms are put togather).
Numerology or Nakshatram syallbles didnt seem to be used for His name.
Kindly advise Sir,

In the case of normal birth the practice is to take the time when thr baby cried which is nrmally immediately after delivery,A fewminutes may not normally matter except in peculiar circumstances when some planets are moving.In such a case the birth horoscope can be rectified later
One should never give much credence to the various pazhamohis in tamil connected with the nakshatras

Sharmaji, why don,t you post a model horoscope( at least the relevant positions of Jupiter and Mercury ), so that anybody can understand and confirm from his own horoscope , whether he will be able to master astrology.

Let that be your first lesson...

Then, why cant' you be the virtual Guru for a virtual classroom

Necessarily you have to spend time with your family.

On horoscope defenitely Jupiter will be in Virgo (kanya) and Mercury will be in Taurus (rishaba)

Then jupiter will be aspecting its 9th house, mercury.....

Defenitely, then the person can learn Jyothisha saastram.. no doubt on it....he can master it.....

Sharma ji,

I think in my horrorscope, both budhan-guru are together I think. So, will it be easy for me to learn this. Also, I want to know about "PANABARAM, ABOGLIYAM, UPAJEYAM" (The sthanas I know). Whether they are just sthanas like kendra, konas. Or else they have some special powers with them???

what if Guru is in makaram and Budhan(Me) is in Katagam). Guru then has 7th aspect on Budhan. Will this person be able to learn astrology?

From Lagnam(Rishanbam), Budhan is Lord of 2House(Mithunam). Guru is Lord of 11H(Meenam).

Ofcourse, +/- a few minutes and both lagna and Chandran can change move houses between Rishabham and Mithunam.

hi Ranganathan sir,
i did masters in sanskrit/education/library and information science
and philosophy...my ph.d in advaita vedanta also....i did comparitive
study of all six darshanas with charvaka/buddhism/jainism
particularly about moksha siddhanta....

Sir,
I believe in 'ASTROLOGY'. I have consulted an astrologer in SRIRANGAM near TIRUCHIRAPALLI.He was above 80years when I started consulting him.He has been in this field for over 60 years and used to say that he had the opportunity to read books on AStrology in SARASWATHI MAHAL LIBRARY,TANJORE.I was fully satisfiedwith his predictions.In chennai in ULLAGARAM area there lives a house wife who learnt Astrology from her father.I have recommended her to many of my relatives and friends.
Recently while going through a websitewww.shastras.org a website dedicated to abolition of caste system in HINDU religion, I came across an article"HOROSCOPES AND PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY" in the
'JOIN THE DISCUSSION GROUP' an article written by PANDIT AVTAR KISHEN KAUL a renowned astrologer from J&K.
The TITLE Of the article is "VEDIC ASTROLOGY"
I give below his opinion.
"I have gone through all these pangs myself and made a thorough study of all the astrological works besides a lot of astronomical books!.I even studied Western system of astrology and had become a'famous'astrologer,though my predictions were as correct as anybody else's i.e. hardly 50%.
However this is a secret that'no other'JYOTHISI' share.

Sir,
My last sister's husband(he is no more) wanted to know why there had been lot of hurdles in his family when he was growing up.after he took up a job he started learning astrology by reading B.V.Raman's books on astrology.By the time he married my sister he had mastered astrology.Many families got the benefit of his knowledge.He also started learning NUMEROLOGY,suggesting stones as pariharam.He used to give free consultation.
When my son was born in the year 1974 i wanted to name him after my father as is the custom.He advised me that my son is born on a particular no(9) and my father's name may not be beneficial to him.
I named my son according to his advice.He informed me that he has learnt after reading a book written by "PANDIT SETHURAMA SARMA"
He also suggested changes in names of myself and other family members.I did not act.After 25 years while standing in front of a bookstall in chennai in the year1999, there was a flash in my mind
about NUMEROLOGY.I asked the shopkeeper whether he is having a book on Numerology written by Pandit Sethurama sarma.He gave me the book writtenin TAMIL and charged me Rs.250.After goingthrough the book I could follow numerology.
His son Mr.GURUMOORTHY has brought out english edition priced at Rs.350.
People who are interested to know about Numerology will be benefitted immensely.It is a book to be kept in everyone's house and anyone can follow easily.
