The Browser Wars between the giants Mozilla and Google is being expanded on to other fields. For example, Firefox OS is competing against Google’s Android.

Google had earlier released the extremely cheap ($35) Chromecast, which made it easier (And affordably) to view content on your TV. The basic process was that compatible apps will have the ability to “cast” their content to the Chromecast, which in turn will display it on your TV.

It seems that Firefox too is getting into the game, as Gigaom reports. It seems that like in the case of browsers, Mozilla’s device will be more open than Google’s and will place no restrictions on the kind of apps being developed for it, opening new avenues for exploring.

Earlier, one of Mozilla’s employees had leaked images of a prototype. As for whether it is true, here is Mozilla’s statement to Gigaom:

“Firefox OS is an open platform freely available for any company to build on top of without restriction. This means companies can experiment with different form factors that run Firefox OS.”

And it will be built by other manufacturers, not by Firefox themselves. It’s name is “Netcast”, though that may be a code name.

Other details about the device are not known and if this is true, then we may see an official announcement soon.

For these to succeed we need high speed high data limit broadband. BSNL will soon launch 16mbps domestic plans for rs. 685, 1101, 2111with caps of 10, 25 and 100 GB and 512 kbps beyond. Without speed watching will be a pain.
This is FTTH, so easier to increase speed.
