[h=1]Report: Apple is readying to make your iPhone a Home Automation Device[/h] May 26, 2014 G.Kishore
WWDC is approaching next month and there have been plenty of speculations and rumors about what WWDC will bring.
The Financial Times reports that Apple may be exploring Home Automation and will unveil a software platform enabling your iPhone to control stuff like lights, security systems and also certain home appliances.
It will make your iPhone the central hub for your home; A remote control that will make your house bend to your wishes. It won’t just be limited to the iPhone: It will also have iPad and Apple TV support.
Apple will allow manufacturers to make products designed to be controlled by the iPhone but they should first go through Apple, to make sure that they comply with certain privacy standards and conforming to a certain quality. This will be similar to Apple’s “Made for iPhone” program.
The new software will appear in iOS 8 and will open the doors to new uses and new forms interaction with the iPhone.
The Financial Times says that the iPhone may trigger certain appliances contextually. Example, it may turn the lights on as soon as you enter the house, which may either by done by iBeacon or by NFC, which may make an appearance in the next iPhone.
Home Automation systems already offer apps for the iPhone, but this would bring Home Automation support directly to the OS itself. It will centralize home automation, which makes it better than having your home spread over multiple apps.
Home Automation is an interesting field, but also a bit vulnerable. If someone hacks your central managing system, your entire home could be under the person’s control. However the prospect of your home acting according to your bidding is definitely interesting.
