Google Street View already allows you to visit mountains, valleys, remote places and many other places without you ever leaving that comfy seat. What if it could take you back in time?

Google has gone ahead and done just that, allowing you to browse back in time, seven years to be exact (That was about when Google had started storing its Street View data).

The new feature is appropriately called “Time Machine” (Obviously) and allows you to see places with interesting perspectives.

“If you’ve ever dreamt of being a time traveler like Doc Brown, now’s your chance. Starting today, you can travel to the past to see how a place has changed over the years by exploring Street View imagery in Google Maps for desktop. We’ve gathered historical imagery from past Street View collections dating back to 2007 to create this digital time capsule of the world.” Google wrote on it’s blog, announcing the new feature.

You could see the development of a place or more interestingly, you could view Japan in two different timelines: Before and After the devastating 9.0 magnitude Earthquake/Tsunami combo which hit Japan in 2011. It was so powerful that it had actually shifted Japan by a grand 3 meters.

It isn’t yet available for all places. A slider now appears on supported places on Street View. All you got to do is to drag the slider to the time you want to go and Boom! You have travelled through time. Awesome and easy, isn’t it?
For now, the new feature is only available on the web-version of Street View, so enjoy! Now if only we could view the future with this…
