Garlic Chutney Recipe

Garlic is packed with antioxidants and is very good for our health. Garlic has antibacterial and anti fungal properties. It help to lower cholesterol. Garlic thins the blood which can help in preventing heart diseases and stokes.The National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, does not recommend any dietary supplement for the prevention of cancer, but recognizes garlic as one of several vegetables with potential anticancer properties.Several population studies show an association between increased intake of garlic and reduced risk of certain cancers, including cancers of the stomach, colon, esophagus, pancreas, and breast. Garlic is considered to be effective at preventing and treating the common cold. It found that those who consumed garlic had significantly fewer cold attack compared to those who did not eat garlic.Garlic has innumerable health benefits but I have complied only a few. After knowing about the health benefits of garlic,we all should try to incorporate garlic in our daily diet.

How to make Garlic Chutney

Prep time - under 15 mins
Cook time - under 15 mins
Serves - 2-3

Ingredients needed

Garlic - 1 cup peeled
Tomato - 1 medium size
Red chillies - 6
Tamarind -small pea sized ball
Curry leaves - 1/4 cup
Oil -2 tbsp
Salt as required

For the seasoning

Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp

Method

Heat oil in a kadai/pan and fry the red chillies in low flame. Once done, remove it from the pan.

In the same pan, add garlic and saute until it turns slightly brown. Remove from pan.

Add curry leaves and tamarind and saute for a few seconds. Remove and keep it aside.

Now add 1 tomato fully (do not cut it) and cook in low flame on all the sides. The tomato will change color and the skin will slightly come apart. Switch off the flame. Leave it to cool.

Grind everything together adding salt to taste.

Heat a tsp of oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add it to the chutney.

Serve this delicious garlic chutney
