I read this delightful book The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother by James McBride around 17 years ago. I have also recommended this book to a number of young adults. (first heard this book in Morning Edition NPR http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1031362
This book is a tribute to his white mother by an african american son. The narrative of book is interspersed statements from McBide's mother and McBirde.
