Can Women wear Rudraksha?

Can women(before/after marriage) wear Rudraksh? There are many debates going on in internet and as well on TV who sell the Rudraksh. Did any puranas mentioned that women can wear Rudraksh? In which Puran it was said? If NO, what is the reason behind women cant wear? what will happen to women who were already wearing from years?

Another attempt to learn the truth from vedic, but not based on individual beliefs. Not intend to hurt any one feelings.

Sri bala charanam

only widows can wear rudhraksham., Other ladies can do manthra japam holding it on their hands for counting purpose.

Women can wear Rudraksha. You are asking in which Purana it is said that Women can wear it. The question should be which Purana says that they should not wear it. None of them do.

Wearing of Rudraksha mala at all times is only for Sannyasis. Grahasthas should not wear Rudraksha Mala. The reason given is that it affects marital relations since it makes the wearer spiritually inclined.

But of late every one has started wearing it. More of a fashion. If men can break the rule why not women?

The restriction is only for wearing Rudraksha mala. Wearing of individual Rudraksha is allowed for both Men and Women. Individual Rudrakshas have different benefits depending on the number of Mukhis (Faces).

Whatever may be the custom before, every body can wear. The question is whether one (any one) wants to wear it or not. Sri Ardhanaaneswarar will not object to it.

Sri bala charanam

Shri msgmv,

Rudraaksha means the eye of rudra. But it became a sacred item for hindus, possibly in the time of the puranas, especially the Siva Purana, Padma Purana, Devi Purana, Rudrajabalopanishad, Mantra Maharnava, etc. Scholarly opinion seems to be that rudraksha must have made its entry only by the 10th. century A.D. in Hinduism. I am not aware whether Buddhist, Jain traditions older than this extol Rudraksha.

It is the seed of a tree and people have attributed so many magical properties to it. That's all about it. I don't know whether the puranas aforesaid prohibit women from wearing it. But till some decades ago, wearing a single bead or a garland of rudraksha was done only when one's desires towards women had abated (i.e., after Shashtiabdapoorthy, usually). Possibly it worked the reverse way also — of reminding the old man that it was time he grew out of lust!

I don't think there is anything wrong in women wearing rudraksham as long as they don't develop the third eye of Shiva as a result and burn others out of anger !

Your flag reads Sri Bala charanam; as it stands, it means, literally, "Sri bala foot" and does not make any sense. Can you enlighten what it actually stands for?
