Impurity (Theetu) : -

A person who has undergone Upanayanam has to observe 3 days impurity
for the deaths of the following 14 relations according to one of the books.
However, Mr K Gopalan is able to guide us in this direction. As regards
impurity conventions and procedures, Srivyasaraj Seva Samithi has published
detailed information to this effect.
A book is also available with Giri Trading
company at Mylapore, which I normally refer, whenever I get a doubt.

A book titled Soodhowka Aasowcha Vilakkam written by Shrivatsa Ve Somadeva Sharma
and another book titled Sadacharam written by Shri K Sankara Sastrigal are available
with Giri Trading Company at Mylapore. Besides one more monthly issue being released
on various issues titled Vaideekashri, authored by Shri Rajagopala Ganapadigal. One
can get any doubt clarified through Vaideekashri.com. Above all, there is a website
on impurity conventions and procedures to be observed as per Hindu Shastras written
by Shri D Prahaladacharya covering around 8 chapters, which come under the
title Vicharavedika. These are guidelines. There is a book available, which I recently
noticed in Kanchi Mutt. You can refer doubts through Nitya Kalyan and Kamakodi too,
where you get replies for such queries.

First of all one must know your gender - male or female. Secondly you are married or not. Then only you can get
a correct advice.

The reason is if you are a married lady you belong to a different gotram and your cousin too. This determines the
days of theettu.

90 nazhigai ( one and a half days) might be correct.

Rules of Impurity (Sutak)

Sir,

I have not mentioned anything about the details furnished by you. I have

only added where such details are discussed.
Please do not take it otherwise.

As you know Sir, the Garuda Puranam discusses about various things, i.e.
in the form of a dialogue that took place between Lord Vishnu and Garuda.
It explains all the details about the present life and afterlife viz. Bandham and
Moksham or bondage and liberation. Besides, essential ceremonies that are
required to be performed after the death of relatives are also dealt with
besides the results of not performing or conducting such ceremonies. The days
of impurity are discussed in depth. In fact, people have to avoid taking coffee
or tea, etc when the dead body is at home, etc. The study of the Vedas and
scriptures including Pooja at home are is strictly prohibited. It also explain as to

how long does the mritakam last, etc.
