Thanks Mr.Gopalan. Just in case it helps I am a Vadakalai Iyengar. So, your suggestion is to do it on the upcoming Amavasai?
 
Also, adding additional information. My father is alive. Only my mom passed away and I am the first son (i have a younger sister).

The exact date was 2nd July 1999 around 8am which happens to be Aani Krishna Paksha Chathurthi.

We had an "aathu" vathiyar earlier who used to help with letting us know the dates, but he is no longer there.
