The first word that comes to your mind when you think of torrenting is piracy, and you may be forgiven for thinking that torrenting begins and ends with piracy.

The fact is that P2P filesharing (Which torrenting relies on) is an efficient way of sharing files, and can be used for legitimate purposes. Resumable downloads, fast speeds, decentralized networks, these are all the advantages of P2P networks.

But lets not kid ourselves, the primary use of torrenting is for piracy, and μTorrent is trying to capitalize on this piracy with an ad-free option that removes all ads for $5 per year.

It all seems a bit ironic, really. μTorrent is a client used primarily for downloading paid content for free (which is illegal, by the way) and μTorrent is trying to get money from users who are trying to find ways to not pay for content.

It sure would be a surprise if this ad-free version actually hits it off with a crowd that is opposed to paying for anything. What do you think?
