My observation as a villager
The present generation students, particularly those from cities and towns may not have any idea about the issue discussed here. It is for their information that I am presenting these facts.
Nowadays we have developed a fancy, a fascination for English language.In my younger days we had no such fancy, but on the other hand, we had a positive hatred for English nurtured by our local patriots, since we were at that time under the British and the entire country was seething with anger against the British rule. So we were justly proud about our anti English stance and patted ourselves on our back for being such staunch patriots. In fact we were made to believe that all those favouring English were pro British and therefore traitors. In such a surcharged situation, there was one pro British person (according to us) in our family circle. He was working as a schoolmaster in the local board high school. He always felt bad that nobody in the village could speak in English. He chastised us students for not showing any interest to speak in English. He used to say that when even beggars in England could speak English, why you boys were not able to speak in English! He was teaching English for the eighth standard and the fun is that we have never heard him speak in English any time anywhere including in the class room. The strange thing was that English was taught to us only in Tamil from fourth standard (that was when English as a language was introduced) up to SSLC! (I think this practice is still in vogue in all the Tamil medium government schools in Tamilnadu). We have also not heard of English medium schools nor seen anyone speaking in English in our village at that time. So English was always an anathema to most of us and we were afraid of not only English but also of those who spoke in English. Even today I get dreams very often in which I dread to face English examination!
The first time I ever heard of people talking in English was when I went to college at Thiruchy to do my intermediate course after completing my schooling. All classes there were handled in English be it English or Sanskrit, Maths, Physics, or Chemistry and I was surprised to see a few students conversing in English and that caused jitters in me. I really felt fish out of water for one full term. (I could understand the plight of those students who study in Tamil medium joining English medium colleges).

A dirty truth
Do you know the most fertile zone in our country?
You may say 'Gangetic Plains'
But there is a more fertile belt than that.
You all know the type of latrines that we have in our trains. They are just vertical openings from the commode leading to the track. Hence the most fertile belt in our country is naturally THE ENTIRE STRETCH OF THE RAILWAY TRACKS INCLUDING BOTH THEIR SIDES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY!
This is invariably one of the tributes(!) paid to us by any foreigner who has the misfortune of traveling by our trains.
Anyway, the Govt is planning to reduce the fertility of the tracks by introducing sanitary type of latrines as in planes, but how soon it will materialise and how effectively and properly it will be used by our people, God alone knows!
i believe that cleanliness is next to Godliness.
(My concern as an environmental engineer)

The right way to make the soul of St Valentine rest in peace:
Why not make Valentine Day a DAY OF LOVE FOR ALL?
Love for animals, birds and all living things on earth
The children, the poor, the disabled and the downtrodden by birth
Why confine it to the carnal love alon

Without carnal love nothing would exists..there wont be children,birds,animals etc..even parents would not exists if carnal love was absent.

One needs to procreate with either lust or carnal love to be even called parents.

I believe in Sant Vatsyayana's Day!..I guess it has more Kickku than St Valentine's day.

We all know that God's presence and power is present all the time and existed even before time and creation....yet we celebrate festivals like Krishna Jayanti,Rama Navaami,Navaratri,Shivaratri etc to connect with God for that extra boost of devotion.


So likewise for couples..married or not... Sant Vastayayana's day would have an extra boost to connect with each other with the intoxication called Lovvu!

BTW married couples relationship is Halal.

Unmarried couples relationship is Haram.

Haram always feels better than Halal!LOL

Haram can turn bitter also more than halal

I concur with Shri rgurus. I think it is time to set right the excesses due to materialism, whether it is running after money or carnal love or any such thing. That is necessary for a right balance. Balancing is what people should be doing. If they are able to master that, people would be experiencing fulfillment in their lives

this is an acid test done by renukaji to find out whether someone is an alkali or some other compound.

most end messed up after such rigoorous testing.

Yes..I believe in equality...why did you assume the Harem is only full of women and owned by a man? Why cant it be full of men and owned by a woman or having mixed genders and owned by both man and woman or any other combination?

THE BACKBENCHERS
Yesterday I happened to see the Tamil Talk Show Neeya? Naana? ( நீயா? நானா?) in Vijay TV. The theme was about the "School Backbenchers" - belonging to the public schools- with two groups of teachers, one group supporting them and the opposite criticising them. The arguments put forth by the supporters was very flimsy and unconvincing, even though their friendly outlook to the backbenchers on humane grounds was welcome. The students seem to be influenced by pictures and politics. Both the teams explained the problems encountered by them in the class room and outside, the supporting team not taking them as offensive but as playful antics, characteristic of the teen agers, who are yet to attain mental maturity. But the one thing which was obvious which the supporters wanted not to make very explicit was the fact that generally the students behaviour was something very detestable. The backbenchers seem to show scant regard for teachers and make some very personal and insulting remarks about them with gesticulations that border on vulgarity, more so in the case of lady teachers. After the enforcement of the act that prohibits corporal punishment by the teachers, the students seem to take law in their hands and put teachers in delicate and embarrassing situations, both personal and social. In todays' situation, there is no safety or support for teachers from any quarters. Politics and caste seem to play a major role among those students and they seem to go to any extent for threatening teachers with dire consequences with the support of their parents and the politicians. The teachers are pushed to a stage of extreme caution to safeguard themselves with all the higher authorities sulking to take any action against the erring students and the more powerful issuing threats to their very survival. Today if a student is detained in an examination, the safety of the teacher gets jeopardised , more so in small towns and villages. A teacher can be strict only at his or her own risk and invigilation in an examination hall has just become a ritual. So most teachers are forced to give up individual attention to such students and are not bothered as to whether they learn or not. Whether the students learn their lessons or not, it is now the teacher who has to learn the lesson to save their skin. Even dedicated teachers are forced to become mechanical and get least interested in whether the students learn or not. If some student is caught red handed in an examination, it is not the student who will be in trouble, but the teacher concerned. Even if the school authorities take action, there is an interference from somewhere and you all can guess from where, which warns the teacher concerned with dire consequences. In some cases, teachers who catch the students for malpractices in the examination hall have to silently undergo a blade cut or any other body injury inflicted by the student or a severe drubbing from the authorities. If schools are to turn out such students, I really get scared to think of the future of the country.
At the same time there is another side to this problem of some teachers indulging in vulgarity, indiscipline, misappropriation, corruption, making quick money through unfair means by selective leakage of question papers, favouring students for a price, helping in the examination hall, sexual exploitation, acting as spokesman of a particular party or leader and getting students involved in caste politics.
Even in higher education, I observe these trends. But as a teacher of the yester generation, I must say that I never encountered situations as bad as they are today, even though some malpractices were always there on both sides. Here the parents and politicians have a great role to play and not the role they are playing now!

It appears that many students, parents and teachers have well equipped themselves with latest updates in the subjects like science , technology etc.;
but have put forth very poor performance in the areas of .............morale and ethics.
