பஞ்ச கச்சம் நமது பிராமண சமுதாயத்தில் உபநயனம் ஆன பிரமசாரிகள் யாரும் ஏன் பஞ்சகச்சம் அணிவதில்லை. வயதான பிரமசாரிகள் கூட ஆசாரியருடன் வரும்போது அவர்களை தட்டுமுட்டு வேஷ்டியில் பார்க்கும்போது மிகவும் அருவருப்பாக உள்ளது.அவர்கள் ஏன் பஞ்சகச்சம் அணியக்கூடாது. இதற்க்கு ஏதாவது சாஸ்திரத்திலோ சம்பிரதாயத்திலோ காரணம் கூறப்பட்டு இருக்கிறதா.வடநாட்டில் 5/6 சிறுவன் கூட மிக நேர்த்தியாக பஞ்சகச்சம் கட்டிக்கொண்டு வருகிறார்களே.நம் தமிழ் நாட்டு பிராமணர்கள் தான் தங்களை தானே தாழ்த்திக்கொண்டு மிக மோசமான நிலைக்கு வந்துவிட்டோம் .இனியாவது இதைப்பற்றி யோசித்து உபநயனம் ஆன பிராமணர்கள் எவரும் பஞ்சகச்சம் கட்டுவதற்கு தடை செய்யக்கூடாது..தாங்களும் உங்கள் அப்பிப்ராயத்தை தெரிவிக்கலாமே .​
 
The fact is many present day Bs do not know how to wear 'panchakatcham'. The people who know about this are very limited, and no one is ready to teach.

Actually, nowadays 'PANCHAKATCHAM' becomes 'PANCHAKASHTAM'.

நான் அறிந்த வரையில் உடைகளை பற்றி சாஸ்திரம் எதுவும் சொல்லுவதாக தெரியவில்லை. இவை
அவரவர் கால தேச வர்த்தமான சௌகரியத்தை பொறுத்தே உள்ளது. வடக்கே பத்ரிநாத்தில் ஸ்ரர்தத்தை செய்து வைக்கும் பண்டாக்கள் கம்பளி உடையில் (pant, coat and cap ) வந்து காரியங்களை செய் கிறார்கள்.
தெற்கே சென்ற தலைமுறை வரையில் நமது எல்லா பிரிவு ஆண் சமூகத்தினர் வேஷ்ட்டியை கச்சம் கட்டிகொண்டிருந்தனர். ஆனால் இன்றைய தலைமுறையினர் தங்கள் சௌகரியத்திற்கேற்ப உடைஉடுத்திக்கொள்கின்றனர் . இதில் ஏதும் தவறு உள்ளதாக தெரியவில்லை. எந்த உடையாயினும் கண்ணியமாகவும் சுத்தமாகவும் இருப்பது அவசியம். ஆனால் நாம் திருக்கோயில்களுக்கு செல்லும்போதோ அல்லது சாஸ்த்ரோத்தமான காரியங்களை செய்யும் போதோ பஞ்சக்கச்சம் அணிவது உசிதமானது என்பது எனது தனிப்பட்ட அபிப்ராயம் .

Your views are VERY MUCH CORRECT. எந்த உடையாயினும் கண்ணியமாகவும் சுத்தமாகவும்(dress, body & mind) இருப்பது அவசியம்.

வயதான பிரமசாரிகள் கூட ஆசாரியருடன் வரும்போதுஅவர்களை தட்டுமுட்டு வேஷ்டியில் பார்க்கும்போது மிகவும் அருவருப்பாக உள்ளது.

நான் அறிந்ததெல்லாம் தட்டுச்சுற்று வேஷ்டியும், தட்டுமுட்டு சாமான்களுமே! :)
 
AFAIK, this Pancha Kaccham (PK) is prescribed only for grihastas in our part of the country. Brahmacharis, irrespective of age, are required to wear only a small piece of cloth just sufficient for the purpose and hence the single veshti is their normal wear which also happens to be the dress of the common man in TN.

கால்களில் ஸாக்ஸ் அணிவதும் உண்டு!
 
பஞ்சகச்சம் சரியான நீள அகலத்தில் வாங்கி அழகாக உடுத்தாவிட்டால்,

பஞ்ச(த்து)க்கச்சமாக முழங்கால்வரை ஏறிவிடும்! உஷார்!!
 
As per the shastra and the rules laid down thereunder in Grihaya sutra, Brahmachari can only wear 4 feet dhoti. Noteven 8 feet. Also he can wear only one poonal. This is applicable until he gets married. If he is unmarried, then until death he can wear only 4 feet veshti, irrespective of how it looks to others. He can fold it like kachha like gandhi wore. Sashtras and rules / regulations can not be twisted as per our whims. No one stops them from wearing pant etc like western culture for their livelihood. But blaming or overriding sastra/sampradaya is not approved. You people are talking like followers of andhashradda nirmulan samiti. Please do not hurt other's feelings and sentiments or faith.
 
I agree with what Sri Sangom has said. There are many things which the shastras have not mentioned but have been handed down by elders to youngsters as healthy practises. An elder once said that the brahmachari is supposed to wear only the thattu kattu single piece. The grihastha has to wear the dhoti as a pancha kachcham. In the pancha kachcham all edges of the dhoti are tucked in and none of it ever touches the ground. This perhaps had a reason. But as our civilization progresses inexorably riding the unidirectional arrow of time, we have these days brahmacharies beyond 12 years old who also wear thattu kattu single piece. We never have reviews of the shastras or good, handed down advices to force match them with present day realities and there lies the problem.

My nephew once came and asked me in all seriousness to help him with his pankaja kachcham. And I did - both with wearing and with the name. LOL.

There is a popular slogan about four Tamil Iyer sub sects of which one is 'Vadama Kattu', which, I believe, relates to Panchakacham. I don't know the present status of that 'Kattu'.

தங்கள் கருத்து மிகவும் உன்னதமானது.வரவேற்க்கத்தக்கது. இதை ஏன் நமது சாஸ்திரோத்தமார்கள் மற்றவர்களுக்கு எடுத்துசொல்லக்கூடாது. ஏன் நமது ஆச்சார்ய புருஷர்களே கூட சொல்லலாமே. அவர்கள் மௌனம் காப்பது ஏன் ?

Mr.Vaggmi, I am sorry to correct you. That is Pancha Kaccham and not Pankaja Kachcham

Nobody ever tried to hurt other's feelings and sentiments. Now you mentioned something about shastra and rules laid down in Grihaya sutra.
Please elaborate exactly what is mentioned in that grihaya sutra so that all of us could know more about this sutra.In that sutra was it mentioned that a brahmachari could wear pants like in western culture for his livelihood? If the answer is yes why not the same rule apply for wearing Panchakachcham for his livelihood?

Nobody wears 'PANCHAKATCHAM' now; There fore no use for 10 kku 6; or 9 kku 5.

All ambis of 35 to thumbis of 70, are loitering with short pants of 10".

But for poojAs and rituals panchakaccham is a must, right Sir!!
Mostly the sAsthrigaL helps the mAmA to wear PK! :help:
P.S: Ready-made PK are available in many shops and some grooms go in search for their size PK, for their wedding day! :peace:

Don't worry! The day is not far away.......... on which Vadhyars would go on pants and his assistants on half pants.

They would prefer providing on line service that too for on line payments .

Nice. It could be with a zip at the front and velcro/elastic at the waist.

Why not make it totally comfortable if one has to necessarily wear it?

Some men try also to look sexy exhibiting their hairy legs with panchakacham.
