4 Step Guide To The Perfect Boiled Egg

Boiled eggs are extremely tricky to make, especially since different people like them cooked differently. Some people like runny yolks in which they can dip their bread, and other people like firm eggs that they can cut up and add to sandwiches or curries. Don’t worry, no matter how you like your egg, we’ve got the perfect guide on how to cook it. This chart shows you exactly how long you should boil the egg, to get both the white and the yolk how you want them. In the initial stages, the white is softer and the yolk is runny. The longer you cook the egg, the firmer the yolk becomes.

Apart from timing, here are a few things you should keep in mind:

1. Drop the eggs into boiling water: Instead of putting the eggs in water and waiting for it to come to a boil, bring the water to a boil first and then put the eggs in. If you’re scared the eggs will crack, lower them in gently with a spoon.

2. Add one spoon of baking soda to the water to make the shell come off easily:Baking soda is an inexpensive ingredient that is easily available at any general store. If you add one spoon of it to the water in which the eggs are boiling, the shell will come off very easily.

3. Time the eggs: Start the timer the moment the eggs hit the water. Depending on how you want your egg cooked, look up the timing on the chart and remove the eggs from the water accordingly. You might have to allow for a little variation, because various factors like the quality of the eggs, the intensity of the heat, etc. all play a role in how fast the egg cooks. It might take a few tries, but soon you will know exactly how long your egg takes to cook. Once you figure that out, you can cook it exactly the same way each time.

4. Drop the eggs in salted ice water as soon as they’re done: The eggs will continue to cook after you turn off the heat, which can cause them to become hard and rubbery. To prevent this, keep a bowl of ice water ready, and transfer the eggs to this bowl as soon as the eggs are done. Adding salt to this water will ensure that your entire egg gets seasoned.
