Can we imagine a day without mobile...But it is just a 20 year phenomenon...The real revolution in mobiles took place just 10 years back with slashing of rates and cheap mobiles and smart phones flooding the market!

India now boasts of being the worlds second-largest telecom market in the world. But do you know how it all started?

Exactly on this day, twenty years ago, one phone call was made which announced the arrival of a communication revolution!

In a first for India, the then Union Telecom Minister Sukh Ram and the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu spoke to each other using hand held mobile phones on July 31, 1995. This was the historic call that forever changed the way we communicate with each other.

The call made in July 1995, between Writer's Building in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and Sanchar Bhavan in New Delhi was carried over Modi Telstra's MobileNet service.
