Every divorce results in two divorcees -- a man and a woman. But not all divorcees stay divorced. The ratio of male to female divorcees varies widely across India.

Explore the map above which shows the number of divorced women per 1,000 divorced men in each state of India.

The data, taken from the latest Census shows that Kerala and Tripura have the highest number of divorced women as compared to divorced men while Punjab and Haryana have the lowest number of divorced women as compared to divorced men.

High number of female divorcees in some states perhaps to higher literacy among women and their economic empowerment

Women divorcees are more averse to remarrying easily if they have children with them.

In many cases one bad experience makes them shy of marriage again.

Many men do not suffer much due to their divorces as they are the cause for it in many cases.

as for the small number of women divorcees in some states, it might be because of a non tolerant society and fear of social ostracism besides threats of violence ,rape

against divorced/ intending to divorce women.
