Smartwatches aren’t really known for their stellar battery life, and it is upto OEMs to squeeze out as much battery life as possible. LG apparently has noticed that round smartwatches waste a lot of space accommodating the battery. This means that round smartwatches get less battery life than their square-counterparts.

Now, LG has developed an hexagonal battery that it claims uses much more screen real-estate than rectangular batteries. This can enable more denser batteries to be packed into smaller spaces, ending in better battery life for the end consumer.

LG will probably go with its hexagonal battery for future smartwatches, and we may see ones offering long battery lives soon.

What do you think? Is a Smartwatch worth it?

Is a Smartwatch worth it?

Difficult to say. When digital watches appeared on the scene - led with a black screen to conserve battery, and one has to press a button to see time. LED watch cost about 15-20 pound sterling, and a standard analogue watch, seiko, cost about 60 pounds. Later on casio and other brands flooded the market with lcd digital watches with about 50 functions, and wiping out swiss watch industry. But analogue display watches sprung back and have virtually wiped out digital display watches.

There was a new item about the wearable 'fitbit' health monitoring device - whether it can detrect whether the person is telling a lie as indicated by shallow breathing, increased pulse rate, sweating and decreased skin resistance. In US the cops fit an ankle band to monitor persons given bail (special cases).

Forecasting is difficult, but we can list ideas and products that have not taken off despite merit.
