hi sir,

these gottu rasam very famous in many households in the palakkad agraharams.....these rasam smell somwtimes whole village....

due to middle class with large family members....these brahmin homes prefered gottu rasam with out thoor dall....

In a simpler form, koththamalli and tomatoes are not used.

In a spoon of ghee, splutter mustard seeds, add a tablespoon of toor dhal and fry till light brown.

Add curry leaves,
red chillies, manjappodi, asafoetida and then the light tamarind juice + salt.

Bring to boil. Rasam is ready! :hungry:

We include kothamalli seeds, tomatoes, and toor dal as well, apart from tamarind juice, salf, asafoetida (in generous doses), red chillies, mustard and ghee. And karuvepilai and kothamalli leaves are a must. No manjappodi however.

Very tasty indeed.
