>Generally Brahmins have always been "Migratory"
>Early Vedic Periods Brahmins were migratory, who were called "Yaa Yaa Vara Brahmanaas"=Yaa,Yaa=whereever,wherever------Vara(this word is derived from Vreehi=Paddy)=Paddy/Rice(Thandulam) is found--Brahmins who used to migrate in harvest seasons ---- or Metaphorically by Paddy, they might have meant "Livelihood", Brahmins "Livelyhood has always remaines "Learning and Educating, Guiding" ="Swaadyaaya Pravachanaabyam Naha Pramathi thavyam"(Taittriya Upanishad)--Naha=for us(brahmins)--Swaadyaayam =thoroughly studying, understanding and committing to memory, the scriptures--Pravachanaabhyaam=whatever we have learned to tell/teach others(Sharing of knowledge) and guiding others using this knowledge---Pramathy=our Primary --Thavyam=duty.---So Brahmins were not bound by Geographical boundaries--they were moving around and spreading the "Knowledge"=Vid=>Vedam--meeting kings, emperors and getting their "Livelyhood".Even today we migrate to "Aindra Khandam"(USA) for our Livelyhood only. Yaa yaa vara brahmanaas were not staying more than 3 nights in a village, which was adopted later only Brahmin Yathindras(Sanyaasis)
>later periods this kind of migration put the ladies and children in difficulty and Brahmins started settling in Settlements.(Chatur Vedhi Mangalam). They were known as "Saalina brahmanas"--"Saali" is again is Paddy(Staple food)--but this time paddy cultivation lands(Shasti Saali=paddy ripening in 60 days)--
>but "Migration" in their DNA did not allow them to remain in one place.Men folk alone in early spring(Uttara Ayanam=In Thai=April 14th) started their migration in search of "Fortune" for about 6 monthsand returned to their families in rainy and winter(Dhakshina Ayanam=Aani=June 13-14)--so they were leaving their "Adhyayanam" for six months and Veda Karmas could not be performed to full extent due to migration. So in Sravanam(Aavani Poornamasya) every year ,they performed "Praayaschittam"(penance) for this omission, on "Aavani Avittam"---"Thaishyaayaam Adhyotsana,Akarana Dosha Praayas Chittaartham,Ashtothra Sankyaa Kaamokaarshayen--- mahaa mantra japam adya karishye"
