Divisional Charts
Hello all....
Here in this thread you will be having the details of the Various Divisional charts, its uses and how these charts are calculated for various purposes in astrology....
Let me begin with Divisional charts first
The divisional charts are useful in analyzing the strengths of planets and bhavas. Delineation of horoscope ignoring divisional charts may lead to grave mistakes in interpretation and analysis. The divisional charts have been categorized as follows:
Shadvargas: D-1, D-2, D-3, D-9, D-12 & D-30.
Saptavargas: D-1, D-2, D-3, D-7, D-9, D-12 & D-30.
Dashvargas: D-1, D-2, D-3, D-7, D-9 D-10, D-12, D-16, D-30 & D-60.
Shodasavargas: D-1, D-2, D-3, D-4, D-7, D-9, D-10, D-12, D-16, D-20, D-24, D-27, D-30, D-40, D-45 & D-60.
These 16 Vargas have been enumerated by Parashara. The four Vargas namely Panchamsha (D-5), Shashtamsha (D-6), Ashtamsha (D-8) and Ekadashamsha (D-11) have also been mentioned in Jaimini and Tajika systems.
Basic Chart (D-1)
The basic birth chart of a native which is also called the Rashi chart is the 1st divisional chart termed as D-1. This chart is seen to ascertain everything about the body, constitution and health of native. This is the foremost chart for predicting future and is complete in itself. All other divisional charts only supplement and can never supplant the birth chart. The detailed method of its casting has been dealt with.

Hora (D-2)
Hora (D-2)
This chart is studied for wealth and prosperity of the native. Each sign of 30º is divided into two parts called horas of 15º each. The Sun and the Moon are allotted the lordship of these two divisions or horas.
In odd signs the Sun rules the 1st half and Moon rules the 2nd half.In even signs Moon rules the 1st half and the Sun rules the 2nd half.
In other words, planets/lagna posited in the odd signs in the 1st hora i.e. 0º-15º are allotted to Leo and those in the 2nd hora i.e. 15º-30º are allotted Cancer.
Similarly planets/lagna in even signs in 1st hora i.e. 0º-15º are allotted to Cancer and those in 2nd hora i.e. 15º-30º are allotted to Leo.
Maharishi Parashara in his Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra reveals some techniques of analyzing the hora chart. It says that Jupiter, Sun and Mars are good in Sun’s hora whereas Moon, Venus and Saturn are good in Moon’s hora. Mercury is good in both horas.
In an odd sign Sun’s hora is powerful whereas in an even sign Moons hora is powerful. There is another viewpoint too. Benefic planets are considered good in even signs and in the hora of the Moon, where as malefics give good results in odd signs and in the hora of Sun.

Dear Mr.Swaminathasharma,
I am reading your posts with interest. Please continue. I have come across some
curious horoscopes . In one , three planets each are seated in 1st, 6th and 12th
houses. In another , all the planets are exalted but the native is not leading a
happy life !Last edited by N.R.Ranganathan; 12-12-2009 at 06:58 PM.

Thanks NRR ji....
Dreshkon (D-3)
This chart is seen for brothers and sisters (co-borns) of the native and everything concerning co-borns. It is also seen for happiness or otherwise which native may derive through co-borns and family ties. It indicates the birth (and death) of brothers and sisters. This chart also indicates the nature of death of the native depending upon the nature of 22nd dreshkon. This divisional chart is very much useful in Medical astrology.
Each sign of 30º is divided into three parts of 10º each.
Planets/lagna posited in 1st dreshkon falls in the sign itself in D3. The 2nd dreshkon falls in 5th from the sign and the 3rd dreshkon fall in the 9th from the sigh under consideration where the planet is posited.
In analyzing this chart one must see the strength and position of 3rd lord of D-1 and Mars the karaka for 3rd house, together with 3rd house from Mars in D3.
Chaturthamsha (D-4)
This divisional chart is also known as Turyamsa or Padmamsa. It is seen for fate, destiny or bhagya which is the real prosperity. This chart therefore combines the role of fate in achieving financial stability, moveable and immovable assets and liabilities.
Each sign of 30º is divided into 4 parts of 7º30΄ each. Planets/Lagna posited in the first division or Chaturthamsha falls in that sign itself. Planets posited in 2nd division fall in 4th from the sign. Planets poised in the 3rd division fall in 7th from the sign and planets posited in 4th division fall in 10th house from the sign where the planet is posited.
4th house inter alia signifies and conveyances the karaka being Mars and Venus respectively. In analyzing this chart see the Lagna, Lagna lord, 4th lord (in D1) and karakas Mars and Venus together with 4th house from Mars and Venus respectively in D4. The possibility of possessing immovable property, vehicles and also the happiness, troubles or litigations connected with these significations can be seen from this divisional chart. Broadly this is the method of analyzing the Vargas taking into account the respective karakas of the house in question. This method may be employed in studying remaining divisional charts as well.

NRR ji.....
If you have the Yogas, u can refer to it....
Even if the planets are exalted, the position of those planets in 6 and 12 are inauspicious.....
It falls under Dharidhira Yoga combinations... in which i shall give some positional datas.
1) Lagna lord in 12th and 12th lord in lagna, which are conjoined and aspected by Malefics or maraka.
2) Lagna lord (LL) is in 6th and 6th lord in Lagna, conjoined or aspected by Malefics or by a maraka planet
3) Lagna or moon with kethu
4) Lagna lord with malefic in 6th or 12th (Even a royal scion with such type of combination will become very very poor in life)
5) 5th and 9th lords in 6th and 12th houses
These are some of the comibinations of Daridra yogas.... even then the planets are exalted, is of no use... as you quoted cant lead a happy life for ever....aham brahmaasmi -

Whether these combinations can be crudely acceptable or further positions of other planets should also be considered sharma ji???
I also have a doubt. Simha is the house of sun. If sun resides in simha during birth-time, we can consider that the power of sun is more. But how far will be the effect, if the simha comes as "8th" rasi from lagns (Makara lagna). I mean 8th sthana is considered as "Maraivu" or descending na...

Durga....
These combinations gives absolute results and we can see practical results in day to day life....
Sun alone in 8th house does not give results... perhaps, you have to see as to how many bindus, sun has got in the Binnaastakavarga.... Based on the bindus obtained by the Sun, and during the transit, results may vary... either auspicious or inauspicious.....
As for as for Makara Lagna, Sun in 8th house is its own house...It will have Aadhipathya dosham, which may be in auspicious at some cases, if malefics are associated or aspected with sun.....
Only with Sun alone a horoscope should not be judged.....
Hope this clears to some extent....
