Parisechanam query

Namaskarams, Few queries regarding parisechanam during having meals.

1. Should parisechanam be done in for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

2. Is it always necessary to have rice while doing parisechanam? What if we are having idli, dosa, upma or chapati? should we put some rice for parisechanam as shastram during breakfast do it and then consume idli/dosa/chapati etc?

3. What about amavasay where we have palaharam at night and not rice, do we still do parisechanam and put bits of that food as pranaya swaha....?

4. Can food cooked in the afternoon which we have had in lunch, the same we are having during dinner? What about parisechanam of the already cooked and once consumed food ?

Regards,
Sri Ravi

Namaskarams,

I have done extensive study on parisechanam after posting this query and have to following answer to my questions.

1. As per texts parisechanam is recommended only in lunch and dinner as in ancient days a brahmin had so many rituals to do from morning that he would get free only after brahma yagyam in the noon, so no breakfast was there, only lunch and dinner so parisechanam only during lunch and dinner.

2. Parisechanam is which has been given a status of "Pranagnihotram" ( sacred prana yagna) for the pancha pranas is recommended with only Annam ( rice ) purified by Ghritam (Ghee) therefore it is called as "Shuddhana Parisechanam" so only rice and ghee for parisechanam not dosa chapati etc.

3. If food is cooked in the after and parisechanam has been done for the food in the afternoon then you cannot do parisechanam for the same again in the night, it has to be freshly cooked always. Likewise if before you have eaten the food other have tasted the rice even then its not fit for parisechanam. As this parisechanam is equated to yagna you can find similarities between the same in terms of being very strict as per rules of not using the thing again which has been used once.

Hope this would clarify doubts on Parisechanam and will benefit everyone.

Regards
