Namaskarams ! As we know that as per vedic texts we need to perform Sandhyavandanam in "Kukkutasanam" the hen posture and need to do achamanam and give arghyam with hands between the knees in this posture. I want to know the importance, relavance, significance of this posture during Sandhyavandanam, also if this posture can be changed to padmasanam during gayatri japam after asana mantram.

Namaskarams!

Sri Ravi

Dear Shrimaan Ravi,

Achamanam should be done sitting in kukkutAsanam posture, either facing east or north.

For gayatri japam, for PrAthas SandyA, one should perform it standing facing east, MAdyahnika sandya Japam is done either sitting or standing North, sAyam sandya japam is done sitting facing west.

While sitting one can sit in padmAsanam and with Yagyopaveetam and hands covered using Angavastram and hands doing the counting.

Regards,
